Anyone from around there? I was accepted into an internship and I had a little time to look around but not enough. I'm going to fly back out there in a few weeks to find a place and sign before I fly back to Denver and drive back

The internship is at Aberdeen/Edgewood and I've been looking at places in White Marsh and Bel Air. Any suggestions/recommendations on buildings I should check out? The internship is going to last anywhere from 6 - 36 months.

I live in Columbia, about 15 minutes from Baltimore. The Baltimore Harbor is nice. Outside of the harbor area is mostly dirty and not pleasant at all.

Federal Hill and Canton are pretty nice. I live in Canton now and I really like it.

BTW, do you live near Old Dobbin Lane?

Yea, I live right off of 175 actually.

And you're right, Federal Hill and Canton are cool places. Fells Point is alright as well. I guess I'm just an old fart in a 24 year old's body. I couldn't imagine living in those areas because of the party scene.

White Marsh and Bel Air are just your typical suburb. Nice areas in general - none of the typical Baltimore characteristics apply there.

Thanks for the info, it'll help a lot. I'll take a look to federal hill and canton in the next few days. Columbia would be too long of a commute for me, but i appreciate it

I've made a link on live maps with a few apartments and locations and such. if anyone would care to look at it and give their opinions, it would be much appreciated. they all have little notes on them, it's just the name of the building and whether or not i'm going to visit them when i go to check out places (info from reviews). further suggestion would be great!

It's gonna be a toss-up decision:

1. Live in Belair area, pay less rent, but pay the price with the commute or
2. Pay more rent, but already be in the city so no commute.

Aberdeen / Edgewood, where his internship is, is not in the city.

I work in Aberdeen Proving Grounds. I lived in Federal Hill and commuted for two years. Expect 45-55 minutes each way unless you are working in Edgewood, in which case it would be a little less. I moved to Havre de Grace (cute but completely dead small town) to cut down on the commute and get away from the idiots that were throwing up on my doorstep every night in Federal Hill. Here are my very brief opinions about the choices that are available to you:
-Baltimore: great town, especially federal hill and canton. I would probably recommend Canton as it is a little less party-ish and would cut down on your commute a bit.
-White Marsh: Boring suburb with a pretty crappy mall
-Bel Air: Boring suburb with a really crappy mall and a bunch of TGI Friday's type of restaurants
-Aberdeen: Cultural death. If you need cheap car repair or some adult videos, this is your place.
-Edgewood: has a bit of a gang problem, nothing really to recommend it.
-Havre de Grace: quaint town, a few decent restaurants, nothing to do after 9 PM EVER.
-Towson: decent place to live, but the commute would likely suck.

I wouldn't recommend living anywhere between Canton and White Marsh on the I95 corridor. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

check out Canton or Fells Point/Butcher's Hill if you want to live in the city and not have an awful commute. Federal Hill, Mt. Vernon, Charles Village, and Hampden are other nice places in the city, but there's no good way to cut across to 95.

if you want to live in the county, then roll the dice and pick your generic suburb. bel air has some semblance of a bar scene...

but we should probably continue to make the same arguments in every baltimore thread.

Thanks for everything, everyone. You've all really helped with someone who knows absolutely nothing about Maryland and in general, the East coast

Here we go with all of the Columbia hatred again. Every six months, this topic gets brought up and I end up defending Columbia against all of your ATOT haters.

And that goes for any others here who have a problem with Columbia!
