Moving to the city... working in the suburbs

Hello, I need advice.

I'm going to be 25 soon and still live at home. I want to move out but would like to live in the city. The problem is I work very close from my parent's house that it's hard to justify a apartment when I live here for free (They refuse money).

I want to move to the city. This would add about 20 miles to my trip so it'd be 36 miles+ from 16 miles.

All my friends live in the city and all the ladies I ever meet are from there... After college sucks ...

There's a slight chance I will be about to transfer my job to the city location but until then, I have to work in the burbs and maybe can work in the city 2 days a week.

Other issues is when winter strolls around, it's going to suck driving....

Any advice? I feel like I'm getting old and want to experience something new. Especially since my lovelife is pretty lacking.

Do it, if you can afford it. You only live once, go where you will enjoy yourself.

Meanwhile, try to find a job in your expertise located in the city. You can always go visit the parents.

36+ mile commute each way? or 36 miles total?

What are the roads like? bumper to bumper traffic?
I know people are saying "reverse commute isn't bad", but around here (NW burbs of chicago), every road and interstate clogs up from like 6:00am to 9:00am, and then again from about 3:30pm to 6:30pm.

I catch the tail end of it in the morning, and my 20 mile commute usually takes close to 50 minutes. I hate my commute, and dunno if I could deal with any longer...

So think about it.

I'd be living in Chicago... I work 7 to 4 usually. and it's one way.

I used to drive from Round Lake to Chicago (Addision) everyday during the summer when construction was happening. Driving there was alright but going home was pretty bad usually but I dealt with it. I just can't handle the burbs anymore and will be willing to do this. I need a change of life.

Where in the city and what burb do you work in?

I used to do that, then I got a job in the city because it was fucking terrible... but that all depends on where.

Yes, live in the City (or close by). Chicago can't be that expensive.

You absolutely need a bachelor pad, instead of bringing people back home to your parents.

When I first moved to the city it was pretty awesome, but I've quickly come to dislike it. Expensive real estate, almost no greenery, noisy, dirty, and a decent amount of crime have lead me to realize that I'm more of a suburbs/rural type of person. YMMV though.

There's no cute hipster girls in the suburbs though.

Get a 6 month lease. If you love it then great. If you hate it for whatever reason then its only 6 month and you can move back with your parents.

IMO, you'll love the city. Cute girls, more bars, no parents. And since you're doing the opposite of everyone else, the commute really won't be that bad.

I lived in the city, then moved to the burbs, then back to the city.

I'll never move to the burbs until i get kids.

I kinda do this. I go against the flow of traffic, so it's a lot quicker, but that's quicker compared to stop and go, so it still sucks.

I have always lived in the suburbs and driven to the city for night life if so desired, even when I was in my 20s. Always did prefer it that way. The city is never quiet or private and you don't go out every night so driving for fun is better, albeit when I was in my 20s you could drink while driving a beer, get pulled over, and have the cop hold your beer while you pee behind a bush.
