i used to not like alternative browers (Opera, myie2, etc) because they simply sucked... incompatibilities...lack of popular plugins... doesnt display pages properly...

but ive been using Firebird, Firefox, and Thunderbird, and they are TRULY great products!

however, i am having a problem with firefox hogging up alot of memory.... it starts from 10mb at start up and can sometimes bloat up to 50mb with multi windows open
its still fast and reliable tho, but the taskbar says its eating memory

Anyone have detailed review between Opera and Mozilla FireFox?

I love Opera (and mouse gestures), but it seems FireFox has these feature too.
Which browser do you guys think is better?

Just downloaded it, had been using .7 With version .8, I can't click on a link & have it open a new tab/window. Instead I get the error message "no xbl binding for browser"

Also .7 seemed to get slower over time - anyone else notice this?

Wow this browser is noticably faster than IE and I like the way images load. Glad it has smooth scrolling unlike the version of mozilla I had before. Anyone else notice it adds a quick reply for anand posts?

Anyone else notice the back and forward buttons are missing??? 3 people in our office grabbed this last night and none of us have back/forward and either we are stupid or there's not a way to add them back in. Anyone else having this problem, or know how to get them back?

Otherwise, it's a sweet browser!

Thanks,
Jeff

and my problem is thus: when I imported all my MANY favorites from Opera, they no longer have the site's name as a title, they are now NUMBERED- that's convenient - NOT.

Gave me an error of "no XBL binding for browser" and would not work correctly, nothing listed like this as a bug, so it's a goner for me, back to Mozilla 1.6

I've heard good things about this...so what the heck, I'll give it a try? The best part is that it's free! Thanks.

upon installation and first run, i had no B/F buttons, either. i then went to the skin/them chooser, switched to a theme, closed firefox, and reopened it... then the buttons showed up

yes, i noticed it added a *Handy* quick reply box for anandtech..maybe its an easter egg for mozilla users?

Actually, Opera users have had this feature for nearly a year now but you're right, it's a great little feature. It seems to work in most?if not all?forums.

It's very slow to load pictures when I am browsing. IE does a better job. And I just like someone mention. I don't find google "autofill" on the firefox.

It goes back to the same position (works on this forum at least) and it even goes back to the same position you were at when you click forward to get back from the back postion allowing me to quick reply this to you "quickly"

Just grabbed a copy, I like it! It kept my themes and bookmarks from firebird, and it loads pages faster.

I understand the joy of escaping from MS products.
From my first 98lite installation w/out Internet Explorer I've been hooked on alt. browsers.
However, after a few hours of FireFox browsing, I can honestly say that the the newest MyIE2 browser is much better (for me, anyway).

Without having to install "extensions" I can move the tabs to the top or bottom of the window. In fact, the ability to move just about anything anywhere you want is a real selling feature for me.

Pop up blockers work about the same in both.

Opera has issures with some websites, and FireFox still has a few as well. I think MyIE2 is a more mature product and it wins this round of the browser wars (for me). The skins available for MyIE2 are also bonus.

One issue I failed to test in FoxFire before uninstalling was assigning an Alias to a website. To check Yahoo mail, I type ?YM? To visit the hot deals forum, I type HD.
I find this faster than clicking through bookmarks. Is this available in Foxfire?
Also, when I have 7 or 8 tabs open (don?t ask) I sometimes rename the tabs for easier navigation. Does FoxFire allow the user to do this as well?

Are you talking about the "Quick Reply" box at the bottom of the page? If you are, it has been around for a while.

And on that note, anyone have a good way to remove IE on a Xp pro install?

Don't bother/try to uninstall IE. It's so integrated with the OS and is very necessary. Ever wonder why Windows Explorer looks somewhat like IE? It may be possible, at least it used to be, but IMO you'd potentially be opening a can of worms.

I'm just now getting into tabbed browsers, and while Firefox is definitely nice, there's some features that I can't seem to find thus far. Anybody know if these are available?

- Save windows when closing Firefox? (ex: for when you have to reboot, but would like to start up where you left off? Avant browser supports this by default)
- Moving the web page "tabs" and toolbars around? I think someone mentioned a plugin? Not a big deal, but maybe nice to have.

I tried MyIE2, and it seems cluttered, with lots of options needing to be set. I like Avant browser, and am currently using it alongside Firefox. BTW, here are some IE-based tabbed browsers: http://www.tucows.com/tabbed95_pop.html
