Downloaded this when i saw the post and have been running it since. Thanks! Only hassle was redownloading the extensions that I used in .7. Thanks again!

I uninstalled .7, rebooted, installed .8 without a change to my extensions or other profile settings, including bookmark order. I wonder why you had to reinstall extensions.

a lot of these extensions are totally redundant. i have seen the 'reopen previous session tabs' and 'use scrollbar to scroll between tabs' option on numerous extensions.

ah, open source. double redundant redundancies

question, besides the download window change, what else was different from firebird v0.7? well, besides the installation file too. the old firebird just extracted to a directory.

Which browser do you guys think is better?

Opera is superior unless you subscribe to the "free is always better" mindset.

Opera: Faster (by a huge margin), more compatible, more featureful (before extensions, at least), more stable, better platform support
Firefox: Cheaper (free!), more extensions and themes (although none work/look as good/well as Opera's), free, consistent with other Gecko products, open-source, free.

I used opera for a while, and while it was a good browser, i dont think as a (small, norwiegen) company they have the momentum necessary to make much headway in the browser market. Mozilla, on the other hand, with a completely free, open source product with AOL's financial backing has the potential to take some substantial market share away from M$ with their (non-standards complinant, insecure) browser.

i'd like to challenge the more compatible. i've heard opera has trouble opening a lot of webpages which loads fine in mozilla and ie.

If you install in the same directory 'over' the old 0.7 it seems to keep browser settings, plugins, cookies, bookmarks..... you get the idea.

Check out Tabbrowser Extensions by Shimoda Hiroshi. As someone mentioned earlier, it's one of the best extensions around. There is an option there that will keep all your tabs when you reboot. There are also a ton of other options for tab usage, I'm sure it can fill your needs.

One reason to stick with Mozilla/Firefox over the other browsers, is because of the constant development of the software due to the open source nature of the product. The products from the smaller private companies can't really compete.

The true test for Mozilla/Firefox is when Microsoft overhauls IE. Judging from changes in IE from the Betas of Windows XP SP2, they are focusing more on heavy duty security fixes than anything else. There will be a popup blocker, but... no tabs!

(I still use IE for the few pages that don't render/function correctly in Firefox.)

I'm just now getting into tabbed browsers, and while Firefox is definitely nice, there's some features that I can't seem to find thus far. Anybody know if these are available?

- Save windows when closing Firefox? (ex: for when you have to reboot, but would like to start up where you left off? Avant browser supports this by default)
- Moving the web page "tabs" and toolbars around? I think someone mentioned a plugin? Not a big deal, but maybe nice to have.

I tried MyIE2, and it seems cluttered, with lots of options needing to be set. I like Avant browser, and am currently using it alongside Firefox. BTW, here are some IE-based tabbed browsers: http://www.tucows.com/tabbed95_pop.html

I downloaded it and well here are my first impressions:

1. Anything is better than IE
2. Fast
3. Works with just every web page I go to.
4. Only plug in i had to download was Shockwave which i did with IE too.
5. Fast
6. Very slim packaging.
7. Downloads are WAYYYYYY faster than with IE.
8. Better than the prior mozillas because of the wmv extension it now supports.

I love it. I will use it for a loooooooooong time.

The reason they had to re-install extensions was because they followed upgrade instructions that had been given in the past, which meant to create an entirely new profile (IE: delete the "Phoenix" folder in C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data) that Firebird created (interestingly enough, they didn't change the folder name yet even for Firefox). If you delete that folder, all extentions, skins, bookmarks, etc are gone and allows for a clean install. My install of Firefox had skin issues until I torched that folder and reinstalled.

Long time Mozilla follower, can't believe how much better Firefox 0.8 is than Firebird 0.7 was. Huge speed increases. Also the new 512mb ram stick I added last night helps.

Opera is great too, but I mostly use Moz/FF.

I got rid of the Bookmarks Toolber, but the Bookmarks Toolbar Folder (in the Bookmarks menu) is still there. Any way to get rid of that?

Awesome browser! So much zippier than IE. Now if I could just get Roboform to work with it I'd be happy.

Anyone recommend another password saver that works with this?

So far so good NO Problems...Will up date to FireFox 0.8 next.....I love Mozilla 1.6 even if I don't know how to import my Fav's. I'll do'um one at a time if i have to just to get away from I.E.6....BTW.... How do you UN-Install I.E. from Win XP Pro?

I found the same thing. I like Opera, but I like Firebird better. I will be trying out Firefox soon.

So how long until Microsoft hires Clint Eastwood to steal it? And how long after that until Atari makes a laserdisk game out of it?

It's bad form to reply to your own message, but I was overly harsh here. If you have a fast machine, Firefox is smokin' hot -- page rendering speed is spectacular. It's just when you're running on lower-end Pentium IIIs or below that Firefox starts sputtering. I do still prefer the Opera interface with all its useful features, however.
