Are you sure about that? My impression was that Firefox/Thunderbird were simply single-unit versions of Mozilla, in case you wanted a browser but not an e-mail client or vice versa.

MyIE has most of the features of FireFox (and probably some more) but uses the IE engine so you don't have to worry about not having the proper plug-in's etc. That is the one thing that keeps me from using firefox full time. MyIE is pretty awesome.

Ditto on that...

I've been using Firebird/Firefox for about 2 weeks now, I like the tabbed browsing, the pop up blocking, but it's not faster for me, where are you guys seeing all this magical speed? Are you guys on modems? Is that why? I'm on cable and everything loads the same if not a little slower.

Having Google on the toolbar is nothing special, you can get the Google Toolbar here:

http://toolbar.google.com/

Google Toolbar works a lot better than the tiny little box on Firefox and it does a good job blocking pop ups as well.

Big_Al, u need to try to load a very heavy duty page. it's not the d/ling that's slow, since speed is determined by ur internet connection, it's the rendering engine. you should check out all the existing extensions you can addon to firefox. some of them are really neat.

I'll never understand people that list using the IE engine as an advantage of a browser.

You get less security, more spyware/evil BHO compatibility, and a broken HTML renderer. How is that an advantage? You'd rather have that than download a flash plugin one single time when first installing the browser? If you haven't noticed, Flash gets updated from time to time and you have to update it in IE as well....

It's one thing to simply prefer IE (or any other browser) over Firefox, but it's another to list the IE Engine as an advantage!

I would be all over FireFox if I could solve my issues, links that do not open from emails (very annoying) or they open local files (what the heck is that), I for one do not like the holes that IE (and it's add-ons) have, but till someone fixes some of these issues, I have to work with a browser that works.

WTF are you talking about, "links that do not open from emails." FireFox is just a browser; it has no email client. So how are you checking your email through firefox?

Can someone telll me if there is an externsion that gets rid of underlining under links? I would like to have hover on (like in IE) but firefox doesn't seem to have it. Other than that firefox has everything, very nice!

No, firefox was rebuilt from scratch. Once firefox is stable, it will replace Mozilla. Think of it as Mozilla 2.0 beta.

What's happening with the Firefox development?
Firefox will be used as the default browser in Mozilla. The current Mozilla suite will be replaced by stand-alone applications.

oh... i didn't realize they had a "google toolbar" for firefox as well, i was talking about the little tiny search box that comes standard with firefox, not the full fledged one you mentioned that had to be installed later.

Just installed it, looks like they work exactly the same, getting rid of the little gimpy one.

How does one Google toolbar work better than another?

hey krunk,

can you give some examples, i've loaded a few pages just to see, but seems like they're pretty even, maybe i'm just not hitting the heavy duty pages.

Easy fix.

You have to change a few of Windows associations ("tools>folder options>file types" in Explorer) to reflect the name change (from Firebird.exe to Firefox.exe). The ones you want to fix are (the "open" selections in these):

URL: HyperText Transfer Protocol
URL: HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy
HTM: Internet Document (HTML)
HTML: Internet Document (HTML)

Change those to reflect the .exe's new name, and if necessary, the directory if you changed it and the OE linking should work again

You can probably also do the same through the registry (search for all the "Firebird.exe" entries and change those to the new name and if needed, new directory)

Anyone solve the problem with previously viewd links on the page not showing you already visited them? I had this problem with Mozilla 1.6 as well. I always click on links twice because it doesn't show if you viewed the page already (darkish blue colored link). This is the only reason I didn't keep Firefox (Mozilla).

EDIT: And yes I did go into the options and even tried different colors altogether for links. Still no go.

This did not fix my problem, I even created a new user(winXP) and setup Firefox as default, Thunderbird as default mail client and links still open as a local file, links in OE did not open at all with FireFox.

Then my guess is something is either wrong or misconfigured on your machine. I've never had a problem. It could be a bug, but you'd just have to visit Mozillazine.org and go to the Thunderbird forum, and do a search to find out the answer to that. If it *IS* a bug, you can be sure there'd be LOTS of posts on it!
