for instance, one of the scripts for greasemonkey allows for one to "completely ignore" any posts on a forum by a user, about a user, quoting a user..such that with it installed, the person with the greasemonkey script can simply forget that user even exists.

I'm going to have to think about greasemonkey now. It certainly sounds interesting.

I'm surprised no one has even mentioned the massive privacy concerns that Google has created with Chrome. Unless in Incognito mode, everything you type into the address bar is logged on a server at Google. In other words, Google knows every web site you have been to and every action you have performed on your browser. How can many of you people not find that at least the slightest bit disturbing?

Greasemonky is a Firefox add-on that among other things allows you to append html into your Gmail signature (because Gmail doesn't allow html).

It's outdated though, as Firefox doesn't support Greasemonkey anymore, and they instead have the beta version of "Gmail Signatures" through the Black Canvas page. It's still not completely reliable however, because some users experience bugs.

Btw, I use Firefox and have always been happy with it. I will try Chrome someday though.

Yeah, that's a good point, and by now they've officially released Chrome now, so I have no excuse lol. I think I've just not had the time yet, but I'm sure if I read the comic again, I won't be able to put it off any longer.

+1 for this baby. Also, I just found the Forecastbar Enhanced, which is exactly the same thing, but with a better radar tool.

Cool, I've not heard of this but I've been looking for just the tool...weather has been acting weird lately, probably due to global warming. It's finding out all these neat plugins that's keeping me content with FF and holding off on Chrome for now.

Yep but sometimes it is to slow. You will see changes that have not happen yet until a few seconds after the pages load. I wish it did it before the page even loaded. It can really slow down surfing.

I personally use Chrome right now even though I prefer Opera. I thought it would handle a massive number of tabs better (because they're individual processes), although this isn't really true. Which browser do you guys find handles a large quantity of tabs well, across multiple windows?

I also had compatibility problems with Opera, and I figured that since Google has a lot more leverage in the internets, it'd be about fully compatible...not really true either.

I do like how clean it is though, and I don't feel like I miss too many of the other random features, other than ad blocking. *shrug*

Do you use greasemonkey? Do you find greasemonkey slows the loading of a website that you are using a greasemonkey script on slows the load time a good amount?

I like Chrome more than Firefox on my laptop at work, because it's faster on old hardware. The bookmark management is a lot better, too!

I hate it on my new Thinkpad, though, because it doesn't support the center mouse button as a scroll wheel like the newer versions of Firefox and IE do. The scroll button didn't work right with Firefox until version 1.5, either, so I guess that I'll need to be patient.

I can't use Chrome because it doesn't have middle press -> scroll, which I used a lot.
I was doing some stuff which meant i had Chrome, Firefox2 and IE6 all open at the same time on the same site (different cookies) and Chrome, due to the lack of middle click scroll, was annoying to use in comparison.
Firefox for me because it does what I want the way I want, plus I have it customised with extensions.

err... care to link some proof to that? I know you can enable that and tie it to your google account if you want. There was some wording in the initial release that was a basic cut and paste of generic google services, but they changed it with the uproar.

I know I'm resurrecting a dead thread, but with a couple of extra months to get used to it, this topic is as relevant now as it was then. (At least it is for me.)

At the time this thread started, I was still a hardcore Firefox user. I didn't really trust Chrome (and its initial user agreement), but now I love it. It's my primary browser at home and work. IE is still my tertiary browser for those few sites that are so poorly written that they won't work in Firefox. (We have some in-house software at work where this is true.)

My biggest reason for switching is speed. When Firefox 3.1 goes live, I might consider going back, but for now, my old machine at home is again quick enough for my short attention span, and my machine at work helps me get stuff done faster. It's not surprising that Google Maps is much, much faster on Google's browser (even though the engine came from Apple's browser).

I do have two minor complaints about Chrome, and one is probably a bug that will be fixed soon enough. On certain out-of-the-box php-based forum websites, the text box that I use to enter posts doesn't draw properly. The delete key removes text from the buffer, but it doesn't remove the text from the screen properly. An easy work-around is to select the text to redraw it. The second difference is that the search function doesn't seem to search inside of text fields. The speed difference between the two browsers is so profound on my old machine at home that it's all still worth the trouble.

(I use a Celeron 2.93 GHz at home with 1GB RAM and a 75 GB drive. After using a computer all day at work, I don't feel as compelled to spend all night on it like I used to, so I haven't really felt the need to upgrade lately. I haven't played a computer game in years.)
