Why? Was it OOS?

My only experience with GPX was quite a few years ago with their cassette tape walkman. It ate 2 AA batteries in 30 minutes flat. You couldn't even listen through one side of a 90-min. tape. Very pathetic. I have never looked at another GPX ever since.

But, I am ready to jump on this deal. Can anybody comment on THIS specific unit's battery life?

I got it finally from the first deal too. I have listened to a couple of audiobooks on cd and battery life is pretty good. I didn't keep track of the time exactly but it seemed like I was able to listen to a complete audio book (Total Control by David Baldacci) over a few days on one set of batteries. I have also dropped it a couple of times (once from about 3 feet on to tile) and it shows no ill effects at all. I am really happy with it.

When you power off, does it remember the last song or goes back to start? The one I have starts over and its a real pain especially for audio books.

I will answer all your questions because I actually bought one.... like 1 month ago.


1) It lasts around 6-8 hours depending on your battery type.
2) I bought mine at fry's for $20
3) It does not remember any thing. When you turn it off, playing an MP3 track for instance, #52 it will reset to 01 upon restart. So audio books will suffer.
4) It would likely read most of your mp3 cds.
5) No AC adapter
6) It takes 15 seconds or more to read mp3s, initializing
7) takes 5 seconds delay in skipping mp3 tracks


It is however so cheap that i did not care very much where it was stolen or not. BUT, it was stolen when i left it at my work place.

I agree with everything that Kcucumber says except a couple of things that I find different.
#6) Mine takes no more than 8 sec to initialize (mp3). From off... to playing in my ear. Timed it 3 times.
and #7) I find no pauses between mp3 tracks. on my audiobooks. end of disc 6- disc 7... no hesitation.
Not sure what the differences are... guess you can't check now cause you don't have it anymore. Freakin thief!

From what I've seen, there are at least 4 "incarnations" of this MP3 player. All have the same appearance and share the same model number. The obvious difference is that they state "45...", "60..." or even "120 sec anti-skip" on the top lid. The 4th version just says "MP3". So, I would guess that their firmware and even hardware are probably different, so start up time, features and battery life will differ. Can anyone post which version you have and whether you got it from this deal?

This MP3 player (the 120-sec variety) was on sale at B&M Target last week (for $25). The regular price there is $30. The online price is $35.
