Of course there is one!
iRiver iHP
It's a HDD player with capacities of 10/20/40GB and it has optical OUT
Has other wonderful features too
BTW the optical out has volume control but since it is done at CPU level it is a true optical line-out, it does bypass the internal amplifier

I didn't think there would be one out there. However Jeff7, the thought of one with a base station or linking station to my home stereo that had an optical out would work as well.

Ah, base station. That'd make sense.
And, Wiktor, you've proven me wrong. I know better now.
Lithium polymer battery in it too. Nifty.

What the hell would you need optical out for if your music isn't in surround sound anyways?
I'm confused.

You can get NetMD devices that have optical out so I don't see why you shouldn't be able to find a MP3 device with optical out.
