Does anybody know the complete specs for

MSI 865PENEO2-FIS2R

Weird that the boards are available but the MSI website ain't up to date..

P4 (SOCKET 478) 1700-3000+(800MHZ FSB) (5)PCI(1)8XAGP(USB 2.0) (4)DDR (184 PIN) UDMA 133 / SERIAL ATA RAID SUPPORT & FIREWIRE 865PE W/ AUDIO & GIGABIT LAN ATX

I ordered one from PC PROGRESS and they stated that it's in stock..

It's supposed to be a SpringDale board with SERIAL ATA RAID, Firewire, and Gigabit LAN..

Was wondering if the GIGABIT LAN is CAS, and what chipset the extra SERIAL ATA raid controller is.
The firewire chip is most likely VIA..

Does it have the ICH5 or ICH5R southbridge on it? In other words, does it do SATA RAID?

Thanks

regular SATA controller.

Where did you order from?

excaliberpc.com

I have it here in my hot little hands. Tonight I will put this rig together.

I have a 2.66 that runs 3300 at default voltage.

So we will see how it goes.

So Paul how does it run?

Anybody else have this board yet?

Is it a good overclocker?

Canterwood, not Springdale.

I have been running the MSI 865PE Neo2 for the last couple days.

Aside from not being able to push my 2.66 to 3300 like I could in my 8INXP I am very impressed with the board.

The layout is good. Even at 155 FSB and 3100 in this board as opposed to 165 FSB and 3300 in the 8INXP, the Neo2 seems even in terms of 3dmark 2001SE and Sandra Memory scores and the stability is there. That is comparing a 155 FSB to 165 FSB.

3dmark2001SE
8IXNP at 165 FSB - 15,700

865PE at 155 FSB - 15,500

Sandra Memory
8IXNP at 165 FSB - 3823/3823

865PE at 155 FSB - 3783/3798

Thanks for the update.

I have a question about hard drive performance. I've heard that Intel doesn't plan to release Intel Application Accelerator for Canterwood excpet for RAID, I assume the same holds for Springdale. I'm wondering what kind of har drive performance you are getting using the regular Windows XP drivers ?

Also if you respond please include what hard drive you are using and how you have it hooked up. (pc133, SATA adapters, SATA drive)

TIA

edit- also does it have a pci/agp lock ?

Assuming you have an 8X AGP graphics card, does your system actually run in AGP 8X? (my P4SDX won't)
How many case fan controllers come on the NEO2?
Does it have firewire?
How loud is that chipset fan?

Looks like my windows OS took a dump. This is definitely not an overclockers board as far as the 533 P4s are concerned.

Hard drive performance is fine as far as I can tell.

I am using a Maxtor 160GB 7200 RPM ATA133 8MB cache drive and I am using it on a Promise ATA133 controller card.

PCI/AGP lock is present. 8X AGP is not a problem.

There is no firewire onboard. I believe there are 2 3 pin fan plugs.

I have a case full of other fans so I can't comment on the nb fan.

Cr@p! This seems to be the case with most peoples exp with the 875/865. 533 FSB CPU overclocking is not good. The only one here I've seen get a decent overclock with an 875/865 is pastorjay with the Aopen board.

I'll be keeping my Albatron 845PE until things change.

I'm not going to be keeping my 533MHz P4 for long anyway (and it's all a crappy B0). I'm getting a 2.4C as soon as they are available

I have a 2.4B C1 that runs 170 FSB, 3.06 GHz @ 1.55 Vcore. I'm hanging onto it for a bit, but want an 875/865 board that will overclock as well as my 845PE. Now the Aopen and Abit are what I'm looking at. The Abit IC7 is the top contender at the moment.

I am probably going to get a 2.4c also.

I put this 2.66 chip in my wifes Albatron 845PEVProIIs and it is running 3300 without even breaking a sweat.

I wonder if these boards will overclock well even with a 800 fsb chip?

Obvious question maybe, but was the memory set to DDR333 or DDR266? I saw another poster who said DDR333 was default. That would cause big problems!

I tried the memory at all different speeds no go.

I dropped the 2.66 in my 845PEVProIIS yesterday and it has been doing 3300 at default voltage.

Bummer. Looks like I'll pass on the MSI. I have yet to see an MSI board that is worth a darn for overclocking. I was hoping this one was different.

Anyone else have any better luck?

When you had the 2.4 in the MSI Neo2 did you increase the voltage above default ?

Different motherboards supply varying amounts of actual voltage for a given setting in the bios. Your Albatron board might provide 1.55 actual volts at default setting and the MSI might provide 1.475 actual volts at default.

If this is the case it might explain the difference results you achieved. When overclocking the critical thing about vcore is the actual volts the cpu is getting, not the setting that is selected in the bios.

Even if all Albatrons undervolt, it still is possible the MSI undervolts slightly more than the Albatron.

I'm not saying it does, I'm saying that without knowing what the actual voltage being delivered in both motherboards is, there isn't any way to know if that is causing the difference in overclockability or if it's something else. It's just good methodology to eliminate all the variables that can be eliminated when trying to evaluate something.

Agree. I'd really like to put the board through its paces myself, but dont want to buy it if it a dog. I'm running 170 MHz FSB now on my Albatron 845PE. 155 FSB would not cut it for me. Too bad, the $100 price tag is nice.

I like the board. I have had it running for 3 days now with no problems. I have a 2.4B CPU in it running at 183 FSB (3.3GHz). In my previous mobo (Asus P4PE) the processor topped off at 175 FSB. The memory scores are great! I have 2 sticks of Geil PC3200 running at CAS2, 366 MHz.

I have to add this. The board will run my Sl6RZ 2.4B on a 170 FSB and is stable.

So I have to wonder if this board is just very picky about what CPU it wants to see.

PS. The performance of this board with the 2.4@3060 and DDR340 is better than if not slightlt greater than my 8INXP.
