OK, got my board in today. Took me a while to get everything working b/c it kept rebooting in Windows and and I got some corrupt files at bootup at times when starting WinXP.

Turns out that this board undervolts like a mofo!! So I upped my core voltage a bit and everything is set. Only strange thing is that my CPU is idling at 54C. It was idling at 35C on my 8SQ800. BIOS issue???:Q

I'm running at the same FSB as I was on the 8SQ800 (153MHz) with my 2.4GHz B0. I'll try for more once I get a chance.

I had the exact same problem with the heat. My old system was idle at 35C now its idle at 51C, it must be a bios issue if 2 people have the exact same temps. Other than that the board has been rock soild not problems what so ever. I have a P4 2.53 and 1 gb of corsair xms pc3200 ram and it runs great. I wish they would fix the heat thing though. I can't even find support for this board on MSI's website. Anyone know what the lastest Bios is?

Thanks, Karl26

My 2.4b runs hella hot (60C) even at default voltage. Definitely a bios issue.

I must add this chip runs 3,060 (170 FSB) at 1.44V actual.

I look at the temperature reporting by the mobo this way.

I know I know how to install the HSF properly.

If the darn thing runs stable, I try not to get caught up in what the temps are because there is bound to be some error.

The 2.4b reported at 28C in my Albatron 60C in the MSI.

The 2.66 reported at 52C in the MSI and 25C in the Albatron.

1) MSI 865PE-NEO2S
2) Intel P4 Northwood, SL668, B0
3) Stock 1600 MHz
4) overclocked 1792 MHz/112 FSB
5) 1.6 volt Vcore
6) same CPU overclock on previous mobo 2800 MHz/170 FSB
7) previous mobo Asus P4B266 (845D)
8) previous VCore (1.6 v)
9) Ram 2x512MB, Micron chip PC2700/6-layer generic PCB,

The same CPU used to OC to only 114FSB on a MSI/SIS645 and 142FSB on the Asus P4B266 with PC2100 RAM. I was able to push the FSB on the Asus to 170FSB with no effort when I changed to the PC2700 RAM. Same MB.

With the MSI 865PE-NEO2S, it seems to me that those who use PC3200/3500 were able to OC to 160-170 FSB while those with PC2700 were mear in the 110FSB range. Is this real?

I dont have my board yet, but it is on the way. I've heard from a few people that this board defaults to a 4:5 ratio (DDR333). Setting it to 1:1 (DDR266) fixed overclocking problems. You have a 1.6A, so it may be a different setting. You should be @ 1:1 which could either be DDR200 or DDR266 setting. Try the different options. I'll get this stuff figured out once my board gets here.

I bought some GEIL Dual Channel DDR PC3500 Ultra Platinum (512mb x 2)..

I'll update the thread to see if I can run these chips at 333MHZ (only the 800 MHZ FSB processor supports 400 MHZ DDR - I only have a 2.53 GHZ P4-533)..

As for overclocking, I'll try it later today - I have a 2.53 C1.. The problem is that the RADEON 9800 probably won't like it much as it's finicky to AGP overclocking..

Somehow I dont think people are going to have much luck with the 4:5 ratio in DC DDR. Not sure why the option is even there. I'll mess around with it when I get my board.

The GEIL PC3500 ULTRA Platinum duals (512MB each) works just fine at 333 MHZ at SPD. So it must be that the board is finicky with certain RAM - in this case, CRUCIAL PC2700 Micron Chips.

My board also reports very high temperatures. 52 at idle and close to 67 at full load for the cpu. Even the NB temp is reported at 55. These temps seem extreme. I tried to call MSI tech support but only got voice mail. No one has returned the call yet and there is nothing on their site about the board. My guesttimate is that the actual temps are about 5-10 cooler. The problem though is that the core cell chip will throttle the cpu if it gets too hot and it gets its readings from the sensors.

I have a 2.4B B0.

I have a NEO2-S and I'm overclocking on the 153MHz FSB with PC2700 memory
I OC my 1.6A on 113FSB with PC2700. We are about the same result precentage wise with the MSI. 115% vs 113%.

On the other hand, the 1.6A was able to OC at 170FSB, 0r 170%, on an Asus P4B266.

Regarding SCISOFT Sandra 2003.3.9.44 Memory Benches (Dual Channel - Line mode - 2 x 512 MB on Bank 1 and 3)

My Score

RAM Bandwidth Int Buff iSSE2 3140 MB/s
RAM Bandwidth Float Buff iSSE2 3139 MB/s

This is on a P4 2.53-533 running ram at PC2700 CAS 2..

What are you guys getting? The RAM bandwidth seems kinda low for a dual channel..

Consider the SCISOFT Reference of Intel 865 2xPC3200 CL2 DDR is around 45603/4484 respectively..

My ram is running at 306MHz and I'm getting better scores than that using SPD settings (CAS2.5).

2.4B @ 2.75GHz w/1GB PC2700 running at DDR306

RAM Bandwidth Int Buff iSSE2 3339 MB/s
RAM Bandwidth Float Buff iSSE2 3337 MB/s

I'll try CAS2 and see what I get.

CPUz says nothing about my memory. It's all greyed out

I was just checking in the BIOS and it was already at CAS2 set by SPD. I could have sworn that I saw it at CAS2.5 yesterday.

It]s set up as 2-3-3-6 in BIOS by SPD.

If you look, that ref is for a 865PE with a Pentium 4-C, which runs @ 800 MHz FSB. Compare with a 7205 which is DC DDR 533 MHz FSB and you will have a more valid comparison.

The REF for a 7205 @ 2xPC2100 is higher than what I score..

CPUZ on mine also shows the SPD grayed out but the bios states the RAM is running at 333 - SPD = 2-4-4-7-8

The board is running dual channel mode, at least the manual states I should plug in the RAM in

SLOT 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 to get dual mode - and when the board boots up, it states

DUAL CHANNEL, LINER MODE

CPUZ on mine also shows the SPD grayed out but the bios states the RAM is running at 333 - SPD = 2-4-4-7-8
What version of CPUz?
DDR333 and 2-4-4-7-8??? Is that what it sees the SPD as? PC2700 with really crummy timings, or is that what it is running at? What kind of ram is this? The slow timings may explain why you are a little slower than a 7205 board.
Can you set the divider and the cas timings manually?

What does SiSoft 2003 say under mainboard info? Ue the report wizard and only pick mainboard info. Her eis how mine looks (Albatron 845PE)

I have this mobo with two 512mb corsair xms pc3500 dimms and P4 3.0c CPU. If I let the SPD detect and set RAM latency, it picks 2.5-4-4-8-8. If I manually change it to 2-2-2-4-8, or anything else, it's still stable but benchmark scores (via Sandra, 3dmark03, etc) are much lower (sandra is like 800 points less on mem bench) than the default setting. Any idea why this would be the case?

Anyone get ahold of MSI about those funky Temp readings coming from the CPU? Mine still says 52C idle and I know that its totally wrong. No way did my system go up 20 degrees just by adding a new MB............I don't know so far I'm not so impressed by this MB....I was wondering when Soltek's I865 MB is coming out.......

Just got the NEO2-865PE-FIS2R yesterday; replaced a 8KNXP that I just sold (too expensive for my blood). I'm running a P43.0C w/ Corsair 3200LL memory. I've definately noticed the reported temperature is much higher than what was reported with the Gigabyte board, and the CPU fan is running as if it wants to take off; it starts doing wild things if I run the CoreCell software.

My major gripe, however, is that I cannot get the board to set my memory to 400 MHz. The fastest frequency the board will set my RAM to is 333 MHz when the FSB is @ 200 MHz and the memory frequency is set to either AUTO or 400. Has anyone experienced this?
