$25 rebate.
Code EMCLPLS54

This may be a better deal than the $50 9600GSO card from Frys since this has 256 bit memory width vs 192 bit of the 9600GSO (better for high resolution/AA). Plus this deal has a smaller rebate and free shipping, Frys charges about $7.

Don't forget the MS Cashback.

Actually the GSO had 768MB.....which would be better at said res/aa/af. The GSO also had 92sp, instead of the 64sp on the GT. The GSO is the superior card in this case.

The PowerColor HD4830 for $65 AR with 7.1 ch out (via HDMI) is probably a better deal than both of these cards, to me at least. It uses less power, and it's faster in most cases than a 9800GT.

To each his own.

I don't think a 4830 uses less power than a 9600 GT. Do a search for the 9600 GT "Green" that will be coming out.

Damnit, forcing me to spend more money! Actually, I think my vid card is what has been making my computer reboot itself so this is perfect... but now I have to buy a new PSU cuz my EA380 won't have enough juice to power this sucker. *SIGH* Thanks OP. Ugh, and I passed on the Corsair deals a few weeks ago thinking I'd have no use for another PSU...

You have a 380w psu and you can't spare 60w (5a). An EA380 can power this in SLI.

This card consumes 245W under load, a Q6600 is 95W, add drives and other components and it's really pushing it.

Whoa maybe a whole system consumes 225w but this card is near 60w of power. Where did you get this number?

Ahh I see where you got that number. Most of the high 200-250w numbers are for full system power at the wall. Which could be 15-30% more than actual consumption depending on the size and efficiency of the PSU. The xbit labs number may be a bit low, but they did isolate the card in the system so it should be a close number. Either way give or take a few % you should be more than fine with your system.

BTW most random reboots are caused by ram.

Most, perhaps, but not all. I think 3 straight days of memtest clears the RAM. Drives and CPU tested good and I put in a new NIC when Windows was giving me BSODs citing NDIS.SYS. Last time my computer crashed and stopped booting it was the vid card, and I replaced it with the same kind (7800GT) so it is suspect.

I've seen that. Nvidia has horrible driver versioning issues. You may need to clean your system with Driver Sweeper and get the latest drivers.

If your EA380 can't power it, either something is wrong with the PSU or you are running 20 hard drives and an overclocked quad core from it. :Q

WTF, after a little more research I'm seeing numbers all over the map from 60W to 245W.

Yeah, total system power consumption.

If you don't know the "exact" power consumption you can "roughly" figure it out this way:

- Use the published TDP of your processor

- Use 75W for every PCI Express video card you have in your system

- Use 75W for every 6 pin PCI Express power connector that you use (your EarthWatts 380W comes with one)

- Use 150W for every 8 pin PCI Express power connector that you use

- Add up all that wattage, and that's what you need for the +12v (which your EarthWatts 380W has 324W worth)

- Add 15W on top of that for every hard drive you have

In reality this would give you a number that is overkill for the actual power it pulls, HOWEVER as a rule of thumb you don't want to be running at 100% all the time.

Thanks, I'll try that. I'm getting uninitiated reboots on OS X as well, though, so I think it's a HW issue. I could use a little more 3D power anyway for those occasions where I want to do a little gaming so this card is a good buy. I'll see if the driver sweeper and new driver works for Windows in the meantime.

One other thing to do is reset your winsock. I think some nvidia network drivers have trouble with a corrupted stack.

start run type in "cmd"

type in "netsh winsock reset"

I cannot believe this card hasn't sold out yet. For $50, this price is like robbing straight out of MSI's coffers.

Thanks OP! Ordered and waiting for impatiently.

It was a close thing between the Frye's 9600 GSO and this one but finally settled on the smaller 'risk' via a smaller rebate.

Man too bad I already have a 8800GT! These awesome deals make me excited, but I can't get excited over anything, cause I can't capitalize on the hot deal .
