OK, I am now having an F-ed up issue. I had 400FSB priming overnight fine, and when I turned my computer on today and it wouldn't boot. I had to reset CMOS and now when I make changes in the Cell Menu it won't stick?

I am running the 714B. No clue how to fix this?

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum but have been reading your posts and the forum over at extremesystems for a few weeks now. You guys seem to be my only hope. I hope this is the right thread to post this problem. Sorry if it's not.

I just got my MSI 975X and E6600 and have put it together, but I'm having some issues when booting. wall

Basically, it just goes through this continuous loop when starting, never getting into Windows. Starts with the MSI Platinum logo screen, then goes to the memory test, PCI Device Listing, Verifying DMI Data, then acts like it's loading Windows. At this point the screen goes blank, a blue screen with about 3 paragraphs appears for .10 seconds and then it goes back to the MSI Platinum logo screen and goes through the loop again.

I can get into the BIOS and have tried some different settings, but nothing seems to work. Also I'm using 7.00 bios. Planning to flash to 7.15 tonight.

Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks a million in advance.

I have a question regarding flashing the bios from 714 -> 715. I forgot to save optimized defaults before I flashed to 715. Could that be why my new settings are not sticking after I save?

EDIT:

I just had to leave it off for 5-10 minutes. I am now on 715 and the settings stick, but everytime I power down and do a cold boot it refuses to start back up. This problem boggles my mind. The settings 400FSB run fine on SP2004 and SuperPi 32MB but as soon as I turn off the PC my settings won't boot the next time? This is 110% bios issue that needs to be fixed ASAP.

I am giving up OCing until a new and VERY MUCH improved bios is released. Please MSI engineers help us!!!

jook, i would just wait for a few weeks to see what the nforce 590 chipset has to offer. there are too many headaches with this board right now.

I just installed everything in my new system and it will start but not post just blank screen. I suspect it may be my ram and will get a lower voltage ram later but in the meantime anyone else have this board and have had problems and resolved them using this board? Not sure what bios ver is shipped with this version of board.

Update

I installed a stick of 512 mb of DDR2- PC4200 ram 1.8V the system started up and posted.

If you are trying to over clock this board I have had it up to 2.6 ghz m1.3 v with an e6400 and ram [5],[5],[5],[12] m 2.1v, CPU temp 51 cel board 49 cel. One thing I have discovered with my 975x platinum power up edition was that I had to disable the advanced BIOS Features-quick boot option (disabled), just hit the esc key on the keyboard to bypass the ram check, in order to even start overclocking hope this helps some other people. I have been hitting the reset button 3-4 consecutive times wait 5 secs and the system should restart it has locked up. still using bios 7.0. I have had my computer up and runnig now stable on reboots and playing my games for a few hours now but had to settle for 2.4 Ghz same volt setting as above. I cant seen to keep it running stable past this, but I am still glad as I had expected more problems with the MSI board.

update

I flashed to the newest bios on the MSI site ver 7.1 using a floppy I can O/C the cpu now without having to disable the quick boot option. One odd thing now is when I set the FSB to 333 f1.4 v it will boot to windows and run fine. But if I turn the computer off in windows and push the button power button on my case it will boot back up with the FSB f 333. If I restart windows and not turn it off it will not reboot properly and have to enter the bios again. FSB f 300 mhz f1.3 v turns off and or reboots no problem at all. I know it s not a huge O/C of the e6400 from 2.1 to 2.4 but a 11% increase is good enough me. I know it can get up to 2.6 and run no problem on stock fan and very little heat increase, but can't figure out the restart issue. I ll probably play with it more when I have time, as I feel this board has alot of potential and requires working with new bios updates. Usb keyboard won't work to get you into the bios but will work once windows loads up so use a ps2 keyboard to play around in the bios. Once again I am satisfied with this board it is a heck of a lot faster then my old xp 2500 cpu and board. Hope this info helps.

anyone else have any updates after flashing to bios v7.1? I just picked up the rest of my parts and will be using a E6600 and 2GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800. I'm mainly using this board as it was given to me so if the tradeoff is little/no overclocking for me then that's fine. I hope everything goes through smoothly as I'm still waiting for my video card to arrive in the mail. I'll post back w/results once I have everything up and running (crosses fingers).

This board is driving me fvcking nuts.
It won't overclock for shiet. It OC's to 325FSB with the stock 7.0 bios. After I switched to 7.1 and 7.21, it will reach 360FSB.. but it won't pass prime when overclocked. PERIOD. Even 300FSB won't pass prime.
The damn secondary IDE keeps using the third party JMicro IDE controller on board that just won't fvcking work properly. It keeps using PIO mode for my drives.
WHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY MSI!!!

alright i finally put everything together today and (no surprise) ran into some problems. my system won't consistently boot when i set the memory memory ratio to 1:5 (DDR2-800). the crucial sticks are spec for 4-4-4-12 @ 800 with 2.1v and if I manually set it that way it won't boot up every single time. i'm not even overclocking and is running everything at stock speed. i'm currently using bios version 7.10. anyone else know whats up?

Hey all, new to this forum so if i make any mistakes please accept my advanced apologys, Thanks.

Anyway i just bought a complete new system.
Core 2 Duo 6600
MSI 975X Platinum PowerUP Edition
and
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-6400 Dual Channel Special Ops XTC Series DDR2 800Mhz Ram

I have installed everything and the system is running great although in the BIOS it says my RAM is only 667, how can this be? Can anyone tell me how can i change the RAM to run at 800 or is the BIOS just screwed and reporting the wrong speed?

Thanks

Im having the same problem as jook. I have exactly the same setup (evertying but the vid card and hdd) but my memory can only be read at 533, not 800, not even 667!

im running 7.1 bios, still no luck. haven't changed any of the timings or memory ratios.

I just downloaded the latest BIOS from the Live update utility, i went into BIOS after installing the new BIOS and had a look at the memory setting, it was still 667, although with the new BIOS i was able to change the memory ratio to 1.5 and that made the memory jump to 800.

When i saved and rebooted however the system would not start and would not boot into windows, it just halted after the POST. I had to go back into the BIOS and change the memory back to 667.

MSI want to take a long hard think before releasing an expensive mobo like this one that doesnt even support what they say it does. Very bad customer service.

Yeah, kind of annoying. I just upgraded to the 7.21 Beta bios. Didn't help either. Still clocks at 533, and maybe 1/10 boots recognizes it at 667. Still not 800.

Maybe we have to wait for another bios update.

folks,

one minor overlook on my end and i managed to fix the memory speed problem. the crucial ddr2 are spec to run at 2.2v and not 2.1v and that's where i set them to run at. I manually set my memory ratio to 1:5 and timings to 4-4-4-12 and that allowed it to boot up everytime to detect DDR2-800. I'm also running bios 7.10 which I downloaded via MSI's windows utility. My suggestion for everyone else to try setting your memory speed/timing/voltage to exactly where they're spec at to see if that'll work.

So far at stock speed and setting everything's as stable as can be except I have this one stupid error after booting up, which is floppy test fail. I tried disabling/enabling the fdc in the bios but both didn't fix the problem even though I don't have a fdd hooked up.

I tried setting the ratio to 1:5 and that seemed to make things go to 800, no boot problems.

I am having this other strange problem where I have to unplug my mouse and plug it back in for the computer to recognize it. I have the Razr Copperhear. Any clues?
