Yeah, i tried that. it didn't help

Oh and also, it doesn't recognize the USB keyboard, even though i have that option "On" in the bios. I have to keep another older PS/2 keyboard plugged in to make that work

very annoying.

thats the board. Used for about a month, comes with all accesories. I have a beta bios on it and its not registering the correct PSU voltages. I can put on whatever bios you want.

Had it stable @ 400 mhz FSB with a small fan zip tied to the northbridge.

how was i trying to dump it? i'm not using the board or the rig. I posted in this thread that i got it to 400 mhz? whats the point of this post again? the only problem at the moment with the beta bios is that it doesnt register the voltages properly, which i was fourth right about.

at stock speeds, i believe msi has the cheapest core 2 duo ready 975x mobo. if i didn't have the stupid floppy test fail issue, i'd be fine with this board. gotta set aside half a day to swap out the board as i'm guessing the board has a faulty fdd controller.

There is an option in the Bios that says "halt on all errors but (diskette)" is the one i chose.

hmm... tks for the input. let me see if i can find that in the bios as that's what i was looking for. otherwise it'll be a real bitch to have to swap this board out if i can't even get everything to run right with stock settings. btw, i spoke too soon about booting up just fine. it turns out my setup won't consistently post coming from being off for an extensively period of time. i'd have to hit reset a few times to get it to boot correctly. damn this msi board is sure full of problems. i wonder if other brands like gigabyte or asus have similar issues.

Got mine setup a week ago and Im already messing with it, tweaking this and that! Great fun. Had absolutely no problems with the board setting it up. Only prob I had was I did not have a fdd but needed one to install XP on the RAID array I created. So I had to "borrow" one temporarily to to the install. Installed Vista RC1 also and that didn't even need the RAID drivers from the disk, which was nice.

One question though, the RAM in my rig is Crucial PC-4300 which is DDR2 533 or 266x2. However I pushed the FSB up to 333 (from 266) which meant my DDR2 533 RAM is now running as DDR2-667. Will this damage my RAM? I was very surprised to see the CPU going from 2.4GHz to 3GHz and the temp only went up 6 degrees!

yah... this board does have a ton of problems... other boards are having trouble too, but not quite like the msi. if you're patient though, this board rox. I've been able to get the windows loading screen to finish up all the way, but it goes to a black screen. i'm thinking i need better ram. as for my highest oc, it was on stock cooler with original bios that came with board 420x8. highest stable was 400x8. i knew i could probably do better, but i didnt feel like tweaking it. i kinda traded it all for a gaming rig though... so yah... no can do any more oc'n atm.

i've also been following the thread over at xtremesystem on this mobo. i also check into the hardocp thread from time to time but so far it seems like no one has a solution to fix the cold boot issue. that's my only problem as i'm still running at stock speed.

i was always a little confused about the cold boot thing... i dont think my board had that. i'm not sure though. i remember that often times after i'd change settings in bios it would restart, but not boot up windows. instead i had to hold the power button down for 10 seconds for it to turn off, then i'd switch it back on, and boom! new bios options loaded, and it would start up just fine. i still dont really know what the cold boot bug is. is that where the computer just doesnt start up?

yea thats the one. you push the power button and the system turns on but it doesnt post and you don't hear that beep. you just see the hd light stay lit whlie the screen stays blank. sometimes it takes a few tries to get my computer to boot to POST. based on other forum threads on this mobo, this seems to be a common problem.

dang.... what a pity... that e6600 is at stock?! man.... you've got a hell of a system goin on there. ballistix ram... wow. stock... tsk tsk tsk. i'm so sad. haha.

another note though... i dunno how the dividers on this thing work, but i could never get it stable enough to post with 1:1.5 or any other dividers except for 3:4 (very low oc). i set it at 1:1 and always oc'd with that but on my cpuz it says my ram is running at 400MHz. i'm guessing that's 800MHz DDR2 effective right? is 1:1 the 800MHz default?

soooo much patience to use this board... i never really used the reset button at all with my machine. it was always the power button. ;p

and for the dude that said he'd give a nickel to someone if this board supports quad core.... ummm i want my nickel. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?p=1527913

i'll proabably buy this board again if i had the chance. i'm thinkin my ram was holding me back more than my board. ocz 6400 plats dont like to run nice with all mobos for some reason, and.... i gotta have faith! come on msi! you can do it! squash these boot bugs! even if you have to get rid of that dual core cell support thingeemajig. i wish abit would get off their asses though. need to do something soon about their enthusiast crap because i miss my old kt7 boards. ;p

according to other forum threads, it seems that 965/975 boards from asus & gigabyte have their own set of issues so i guess switching mobo won't exactly do me any good. i also always use the power button when my system doesn't post. the reset button doesn't do much to help. i only hope this bug is fixable via a bios update sometime down the line.

So I just picked up this board last week, with a Core 2 Duo 6400 along iwth 1 gig of RAM that was Kingston but I am getting a gig of Ballistix today.

But whie running what I have now, how it is possible to overclock the CPU? I can't figure that out. Also, the RAM in there now is DDR-800 (and the Ballistix will be too) but I can;t seem to clock it paste 667. Actually, there isn't any options that I am seeing to get it at 800, only 750 and 880 is the cloest but neither of those will it boot too.

Any ideas?

Overclocking for each board is a bit different if you search for overclocking threads there is alot of info out there on this board.

What I would start with is updating your bios to ver 1503

Good luck

THanks. I'll so some searching. Quick question too. Is there a diffrence between the MSI 975X Platinum v.2 and the PowerUp Edition? I gues mine says PowerUp Edition onthe box but everywhere else it says MSI 975X Platinum v.2.1.

Mine came with bios ver 7.1

folks,

the lastest bios v7.2 seems to have fixed the cold boot issue. i updated to it about a week ago and have not experience the same boot problem as before. memory timings seem to be off compared to what I've set in the bios though. setting 4-4-4-12 in the bios results in a 4-5-6-12 timings according to cpu-z.

Just got my system together and powered up yesterday. Problem is that I can not get windows to recognize the Hard drives. I have the V2 motherboard, with 2 160G Seagate SATA II drives that I want to run in Raid 0. Plan to run XP pro, as OS.

Two thoughts currently. One is that the BIOS on my board is 7.0, and I see that in 7.1 they made fixes to the Conroe processing. Other is that I need more than the JMicron drivers to load during start up, or that I am not loading this correctly.

Anyone seen similar issues? BIOS recognizes the hard drives and serial #s, since I can set up Raid in Bios, and also at the Crtl-I screen. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The rest of the system just FYI.
