Not sure if this is the best place or be better put in graphics card section. I just did a reinstall of Windows 10 64bit. Getting all the programs put back on. Trying to install MSI Afterburner and it seems to install successfully but when I try to open it, it says something about side by side configuration is incorrect. At first I installed version 4.6.4 beta, tried 4.6.3 and same thing. I have reinstalled a few times, tried without installing the riva statistic server with no change. After a google search, seems this is a visual C++ issue. It seems I have all versions installed, 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2019. Can all of those be uninstalled or does Windows need them to run?

Before I reinstalled Windows Afterburner was running fine. Is there another program to use to control GPU fan speeds? I have tried EVGA Precision but that doesn't work. I move the fan speed and click apply but nothing happens.

Most programs that require a particular version of Visual C++ will install it before installing the program itself. So the fact that you have so many installed means that some program you installed requires them. From what I've read, MSI Afterburner uses 2008. Perhaps remove and reinstall just that version?

Another idea. Some other forums posts I've seen with the same problem mentioned that when uninstalling you should select NO when prompted to keep your settings. If you are keeping your settings between reinstalls, don't.

Will try removing the 2008 version, both x86 and 64.

Whenever I uninstalled, I always selected no to keep settings since it wouldn't have any settings since I haven't been able to use it since reinstalling windows.

Something else I noticed is it only installed the visual C++ when I had the riva statistics server selected to install. Not sure if visual C++ is needed for the program itself or only needed for the riva server. Guessing it does since I am getting that error message which indicates a C++ problem according to my google search. Either way, it did not work when I did not install riva.

No, just the redistributable C++ libraries (dlls exes) need for the version of C++ that the program was compiled with. What version of Visual Studio one has installed shouldn't matter. Something else is going wrong. What is the 'exact' error message? Is there an install log in the program directory or elsewhere from the Afterburner install?

Attached is the error message. I am not sure about the install log, where would that be if there is one? In the error message it says to run a command line for more details, I did that but not really sure what all that meant. Attached a pic of that too.

Here are some additional options: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...ause-its/634458e4-e02f-4bdc-aab8-c148a9a3f61a

The best bet is using computer management to get to the windows application event log to look for the error.

I find this kind of weird. I did a few things in that link you gave me, some things I already done like reinstalling the program. Did the sfc/scannow and it did not find anything wrong. I ran the troubleshoot compatibility, right clicked the desktop shortcut to get to that, not where microsoft said to get to it. Anyways, it changed it to run in windows 8 compatibility mode. That seemed to do the trick. The program opens up now. Don't really understand why it has to run in windows 8 mode.

Here is a screenshot of the error from event viewer.

Based on the event viewer error, it looks like you may have had the x64 version of a particular year installed but not the x86 version? If the other post I read was correct, you have 2008 x64 but not 2008 x86?

Both x86 and x64 version of 2008 C++ is installed. I never did uninstall any of the Visual C++ installs.

Not really sure what the deal is having to run in windows 8 compatibility mode, don't think I had to before I reinstalled windows 10, at least not that I recall.

I gotta kick my own butt, and try to remember to pre-install that package onto new gaming rigs that I build. Otherwise, I invariably get called back, "I installed D2, and it's crashing to desktop!".

Well, install the MSVC AIO ...

(Most Blizzard games need it, but they don't include them in their installer. For whatever reason.)
