Since I have become a big MSI notebook fan I wanted to share this - I love my GT60 0NE

MSI got the CES Innovation Award for the 3 year in a row for their gaming notebooks. You may have their notebooks and not realize it as they also do whitebooks that are used by companies like Cyberpower for their Fangbook. There are also countless boutiques and customizers out their that sell customized versions of their offerings.

I personally have the GT60 0NE-403US w/ GTX 680m @ 1030/1150 (~249US same exact thing, just the # ) and love it - I use it as a desktop replacement and play a ton of BF4 on it. I am excited to be getting their newest GT60 2OD-261US w/ the 3K IPS Screen tomorrow or the next day. I will be testing it out as soon as I can and posting up my findings -> SOOOOO damn anxious for that gorgeous screen plus to put in 3 MSATA SSDs in RAID 0 and add another 16GB of RAM for a large RAM drive. So anxious its not funny since I am becoming stressed as the minutes creep by.

MSI announces that two of its products have been named as International CES Innovations 2014 Design and Engineering Award Honorees. This year, the recognition goes to the GS70 gaming notebook and "Flicker-Free" AG2712A AIO Gaming PC. This is the 3rd year in a row that gaming notebooks from MSI have received these accolades.

Over the past year, these have become my favorite gaming laptop. I bought a GT70 2OC and loved it.

My buddy just bought the same model and absolutely loves it.

Thanks, will consider it. What's the general price range of good gaming MSI laptops? I saw the configured price of one the goat eater was talking about, it was $2100.

Thanks

Lots of people like to hate on gaming notebooks but I honestly never want to go back. Its awesome playing video games in bed, or pretty much anywhere.

Mobile CPU's are already competitive with desktop CPU's and mobile GPU's are closing in. I think the mild price premium is definitely worth it; but not for everyone.

I have a few friends with MSI gaming notebooks but I wasn't too impressed with them. I think the price has something to do with why MSI wins. It seems like they have slightly better quality than Asus' gaming series while providing more customizability and similar pricing.

What I want MSI to do is to improve battery life. My friend has an MSI notebook with an i7-3610m and a GTX 660m; very mid-range specs for a gaming notebook. It cannot get past a 2 hour battery life even with Optimus enabled.

Where I live there are no cost savings associated with building a custom desktop anymore. Custom parts are just stupid expensive unless I grab a mini itx case with a psu included.

For the same price as an MSI gaming notebook, I can build a desktop that'll be 20% faster or so at the cost of mobility. Not worth it tbh, so I've switched to gaming notebooks too.

I'm guessing he has a GE60/70? Their slim notebooks aren't as good as the fattys. The GT and GX lines use the fat chassis with a big ass battery included.

I too have been a fan of the 'gaming notebook' since the ASUS G73, I also own a ASUS G75 but am considering looking beyong the G750 series. I was thinking of something like this...

Anyone have/used one?

Any slim "gaming" laptop you should expect fan wine and a lot of heat.

Slimmer Copper HeatSink = Not very efficient at transferring heat while under load or idle in some notebooks.

Slimmer Fan = Has to spin faster to push more air vs bigger fans that are equipped with bigger/thicker chassis. Will create whine when in higher RPM.

I used to own a MSI GE60 (the whitebook version) w/ GTX 660M and a 2670QM. During a 10 minute gameplay of Lost Planet the fans kicked up and the laptop sounded like a jet. I am not even exaggerating either, it was simply that loud. Slim and powerful? Yes. Slim, powerful, cool and quiet? No.

The MSI GS70 is definitely not a silent notebook. It is even working quite hard to transport the high temperatures out of the thin case during idle; it is always perceptible with 34-35 dB(A).

CPU and GPU temperatures are not that great. 90-100 °C (194-212 °F) in our stress test are almost at the thermal limit of the components.

That there reminds me of my GE60 very very much. A review for the GE60 can be found Here. Scroll down to Emissions > Heat. Same thing, high CPU temps under load.

I use headphones with my desktop PC with an AMD 7970. It sounds like a jet plane, but with headphones - don't hear a thing.

I assume gaming on those laptops, you're supposed to use headphones to get the most out of them.
