Hi,

I am interested in getting this board as i am not bothered about SLI and the other board i am considering is the ASUS A8N-SLI purely becuase its cheap and i know that the heatsink i want, which is the Thermalright XP-120 fits.

Now i will go for this MSI mobo if i can find out if that XP-120 heatsink will fit the thing.

Here is a link to a pic of the board:

MSI Neo 4 Mobo

From what i can see and from comparing the pics another guy made of his asus board with this heatsink on i think it might work. The caps next to the processor do not seem that high and i think if the heatpipes go this way it might fit and i can also fit memory in the first DIM slot. If i put the heatpipes the other way towards the Memory i dont think it will work as there is not much room between the processor and the memory dimms.

Can any of you help cos i realy want to get a mobo ordered and build me comp.

The Good news from Thermalright:

Dear XXXXXX,

The XP-120 fits the Neo4 Platinum. However, you might not be able to use the first memory slot because of the heatpipes. The XP-90 will fit onto the board without any problem though.

Thanks for choosing Thermalright and Happy New Year!

Best Regards,
Jack

The BAD news....ZipZoomFly just updated the EDT to 1/19/05......

ZZF

I went with the XP-90 (didn't want to take a chance loosing the first memory slot); Antec P-160 case; Seasonic 460 SS....everything else will have to wait until these boards are more readily available. Interesting though that ZZF has lowered the ASUS SLI Board to $199...not much more than the MSI Board, but it should drop quickly.

Which video card are you looking at?

I'm looking at either this board or the SLi version of it and getting a 6600GT board. Waiting stinks.

What would you guys get? The SLi version so later this year if I want I can add another card on it?

side note - I can believe TBreak.com tested the Diamond version of this board with only a 400 watt power supply - what were they thinking?????

I have gone for a X800XT graphics card and as i said not doing the SLI thing so not too bothered about not haveing SLI.

Also DEredita, I cant remember but i swear i have seen the platinum have to graphics cards in it with a bridge. U dont get the full SLI but it is still quite a boost.

Well if the XP-120 works on this board but does obstruct the dimm slot then is this a big draw back. I am using a DDR dual memory setup so do i need that first dimm slot??

Also over here in the UK i phoned the website i am getting all me stuff from and was told around mid jan for this board, so if MSI hold there word which would be nice i could get it quite soon.
Thanks

no, you do not NEED them. If you use two sticks of mem you cvan plug them either in DImm1/Dimm2 (the two slots which will be obstructed)...or use Dimm3/Dimm4.

The problem is rather that SOME people say it might be more difficult to overclock with the sticks in Dimm2/Dimm3 since some boards seem to overclock better with the stick in the first two slots. I dont know anything about this.. But i didnt wanna chance it so i got the XP-90 instead. The xp-90 is almost on par with the XP-120, i dont see it as a big loss..

Yes, it's design by intention. The K8N Neo4 Platinum (Ultra) will be able to do a form of SLI, without an on board bridge sellector, (the cards need to be bridged, and that hardware should be bundled with the board---hopefully).
