Ya, I've run thru the internet options connections setup 3 or 4 times now... using the MSI Ispeed program it shows i'm receiving an average of 7.2 kbits a second! I'm hoping it's just a check box or something I've missed. Also running microsofts firewall but I turn it off and thats no help either.

Im running a dlink switch to route the connector to the problem sys. Should both ip addresses be the same or similar cause the problem sys ip addesss is completely different. Under help and suport it lists "highlighted" DHCP server 255.255. etc is not a valid ip address.

What do your TCP/IP properties look like for the nforce's local area connection? What router are you running? What are its settings?

They are set to obtain ip automatically. I'm not finding any settings that are different between my sys thats connecting and the new one thats not ? I'm not using a router just a simple 10/100 switch to split the connection.

Ok, I reset my modem and rebooted both systems. I discoverd that which ever one boots first grabs the cable signal and wont share with the other. Right now I'm typing this on the MSI board but my old sys can't get a signal. Any thoughts?

I'd be concerned about a geeks board now that they no longer have any more, they have nothing to replace it with if you get a bad one.

Hmm... ordered one 5 days ago, credit card was cleared, but it still says "processing" and the board is now out of stock. :disgust:

I checked on Friday (2-3 business days after ordering) and they were still in stock, but my order still not shipped. Anyone have any bad luck with geeks? This is crap if the boards are gone and one is not available for the order I placed when they were perfectly stocked....

Geeks still is a pretty good site, as long as I'm not ordering an MSI motherboard.

I bought this board and at first it wouldn't boot (also got it from geeks.com). Take your ram out a few times and stick it back in the socket (or try other sockets) and make sure they are fully seated..

Left me scratching my head for 15 minutes.

Hmmm, does it have something to do with those cards?

I bought this mobo for my son's box and it's coupled with an ATI X1900XTX video card (which is a darned power hungry card, and it's a high speed card no?).. Works just fine and no problems - using it under Vista and played 8 hours of Supreme Commander straight with no lockups or issues.

Latest BIOS from MSI
Coolermaster Centurion 5 Mid Tower Case
Opteron 175 w/ the heatsink that comes with it
2GB of Kingston Value Ram (set at SPD, 200 MHZ, forced 1T).
SATA Maxtor Primary Drive
Antec EarthWatts EA-500 PS

I'm not overclocking though..

I can't get it stable with any high speed PCI-E card. I've tried the 7950GT and the X1950XT, neither want to play nice. I've reinstalled Windows, unoverclocked, even underclocked, bumped the voltage to the chipset. I've done EVERYTHING.

Edit: I know someone else here has a 7950GT and others are running mid-range high-end cards. Maybe it's just my board. 3.2GHz Core2 seems tempting though and I don't even have to overclock the RAM!

I just picked up a sweet Antec 900 at CompUSSR and I signed my tax forms last week so I'm building a Core2 in a couple of weeks. Tired of not playing games.

Judging by what some others have posted, it could be your power supply that's making the difference.

Long live this thread

Seconded.

I'm not sure why some orders still say processing...I thought I read something about this on page 8 or so. It should come soon.

I got a shipped confirmation this AM. I bought mine from Geeks, but off of eBay, not through their website. Maybe that's why it updates faster, so that they can keep a good reputation.

Funks - I have no idea why my board would not play nice with a X1950XT or a 7950GT. Whatever the case, I've sold everything (only lost $5 on the mobo HAHA) and I'm running a VERY sweet 3.4GHz Core 2 setup with my X1950XT.

Long live this thread and the countless hours of testing with the Opteron 165 I did for you guys

Kenton...thank you for all your time and testing. I finally finished reading this entire thread and you sure contributed a whole lot of blood, sweat and tears.

I should be receiving my board from Geeks tomorrow (and my Opteron 170 from Newegg).

Again, thanks for the help!

Got my 2 boards today, flashed up the bios to the 1D first, then changed to the modified 1C because I'm running 4000's. First of all yes, the 1C modified bios does fix the "missing" 1T/2T setting, and second of all, I personally like the modified 1C better than the MSI 1D. Unless I'm off-base here, there seems to be more options enabled in the modified 1C than the stock MSI 1D (anyone else notice this? or am I crazy?) Running some memtests now, I was concerned about this PNY memory I have that fails on my Nforce2 mobo, but passes with flying colors on this MSI board (all tests done @ 1T, I might add, nothing else changed so far). Memtest said something about 2.5-3-3-8 or 3-3-3-8, I don't remember, I'm not sure how to tweak that (or even if I want to). Thank you to whoever posted the link to the modified bios that fixed that issue.

Also, answering my own question from before:

"Someone posted something about their board having a post beep when they booted it up, but how can that be when there's no hookup for an internal speaker? Does the post beep go through regular (external) speakers if they're hooked up? I have an Abit board that does that, and while I find it annoying, it could be a substitute for the missing internal speaker header."

The answer is NO, there is no post beep through the stereo speakers, there's no post beep, period (unless you're really good at soldering).

So far, so good, but this is only the beginning
