When I got mine about three weeks ago, as soon as I got Windows installed, I downloaded Live update and let the system do all the updating including the Bios. I'm using a SATA HDD, DRD-RW and a IDE HDD without a problem. In fact, I'm very happy with the board considering it was less than $50.00 and a $78.00 A64 4000+ San Diego on it!

You might also want to turn the computer on and off after unplugging the ps to get rid of any juice that might be left in the power supply.

I have this mobo and the 4000+ chip. I updated the bios with the live update. It went fine. I'm running 2 dvd drives and 3 hds (250, 160,160) with this MGE 400watt power supply without a problem. I have the artic freezer and even have a neon cathode light. No problem with the power supply. This is a $25 one with $20 rebate from microcenter. I'm not sure why others need big power supplies to run this system. Maybe I got lucky.

BTW, I have a gig of Kingston HX pc3500. I have the same CPU as everyone else with the E6 stuff. I tried to oc to 3.0 gig, but won't work. I tried 250 x 12 at ht4, 300 x 10 at ht4 with 166 mem divider and 133 mem divider, respectfully. I can't get there! I was only able to get to 2.8gigs with 6.6% bump, from 1.35v default. Help!

Supposedly stock was available for a few minutes the other day, a few people said they ordered. Just keep watching, it appears that sometimes they get blips of stock in for this.

What kinds of speeds are others getting with that chip? 2.8 ghz doesn't sound too bad. My board has such a fluctuating voltage, I'm surprised I got 2.6 ghz from my Opty 165. Maybe it will do more, but I'm almost afraid to try.

Are you using the 1T setting?

Freshspace...if you're at 2.8Ghz, you're doing better than most of us with the 165 in this board. I have one that does 2.7Ghz and one that does 2.5Ghz. And I'm talking stable speed (Orthos for 12hrs). YMMV...I think you are doing good at 2.8Ghz if it is truly stable.

I don't see how you got that high with that PSU. I had an Antec TruPower 380W PSU and the best I could do was stock settings! Any OC and the board wouldn't even start! I got an OCZ 700W PSU and now I'm at 2.7Ghz.

You guys and gals need to try out this site for the power supply calculator. You will be surprised how much less you actually need to run this system. Here it is:

http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

By the way, I am now running at 2.94gig with 245fsb and 12x multi. I guess this is okay. My Vcore fluctuates from 1.44 to 1.47. It looks like these boards have new capacitors on them. The new ones should regulate the voltage better. They are either rubicon or some Korean made ones that have real good reputation. Maybe not. I dunno. Thanks for your input Cheetoden and Boobers.

anyone having video card issues with this board? My PC kept crashing and I thought it was my X1950 Pro because it was only on 3D apps or games. I put the card in another PC and it works fine so now Im thinking MOBO issue.

Kenton had video card issues, here is his post from a few pages back

"Yeah... I knew it was my board when neither a 7950GT or X1950XT would play nice. Seems others are having some of the issues I had, but at least I made it to Windows."

I intentionally bought two of these boards back in November...figured it can never hurt to have a "spare"

Grats on the speed. Here's the thing about PSUs. The closer you run it to max continuous power, the warmer and more inefficiently the PSU will run, and the more the voltage will fluctuate.

I'm running a 600W PSU with a 7900 GS vid card that also sucks some power. I'm reasonably sure this will be relatively rock solid for the long term.

Now I have a question regarding eSATA and this board. I'm getting a eSATA external drive, and I can either connect it to a controller card, or just use a simple eSATA bracket that connects right to the motherboard. If I use the bracket, would it be hot swappable? Could I just turn it on while windows is running? That would be nice.

Doh..., my bad. I am using a pci Radeon card from about 5 years ago. Without doing much more research, maybe my videocard is what makes the difference. I paid $100 for it way back when. It is a 32mb sdr card and the system reads it as a 7200 card. Hahaha. I guess I won't upgrade to that power hungry ultra card any time soon. Have a good one.

By the way, now that I am running my 4000+ at 2.94, do you think I still need an Opteron? Money is really not an issue if I need it. I like the idea of a dual core, but not sure if I will be just throwing around money for some giggles. Maybe, if it doesn't overclock as well as my 4000+, I won't even be giggling. Can I get some opinions? By the way, Newegg customer replies said that the new Opteron cores are a modified x2s. Someone here was talking about how it can't be true, because of different manufacturing process. While I agree, there are a few posts like that on the NE site. What's up with that?

I bought a 4000+ at NewEgg, and got it up to 2.89Ghz (241x12). My Opty 165 from NewEgg only gets up to 2.7Ghz (300x9). So for game-playing, the single-core 4000+ would be a better bet, but the Opty is better for multi-tasking, and perhaps in the future for dual-core enabled games.
