i have this board, i used to use it
Its decent if your not planning to do any serious overclocking.
The voltages on this board are very unstable...
And the board dosnt give you but 2.8v to your DDR DIMMs...
well you get what you pay for...
Its really good for stock use, its very comparable to any other board out there... its decent...

Well... I guess man. I doubt I'd get an better OC on a DFI. These FX's seems to top out in the 3Ghz range and I'm right there. I guess the point is for $45, its not worth an extra 1-2% for a hundo more.

I have it overclocked to 2.5GHz (10 x 250MHz) with the HT multiplier dropped down to 4x and the RAM running at the DDR 333 ratio so that it comes out to actually being DDR 416 or so (250 * 333 /2).

I have been trying to figure out that equation for a while now...LOL thanks

I used LiveUpdate to update the BIOS to version 1.D and it worked fine. I've been running with the new BIOS for several days without any problems. Prime 95 torture test and 3dMark05 also completed fine.

Do you mean in dual channel?
That's a definitive no.
But in a single channel you shouldn't have any problems.

No, I don't expect dual channel. The reason I ask is because on the DFI LanParty nForce4 board you couldn't mix the rams of different sizes or different brand. It will refuse to POST at all.

My understanding is that they're all Ver 2.0
It is a PCB 1.0 Ver 2.0 board.

The board comes with a stripped down BIOS which has no overclocking options.

You said the voltages are very unstable....you mean when overclocking or even at stock voltages? I'm not too comfortable running a board that the voltages are not well within acceptable fluctuation specs.

The motherboard is not the only source of unstable voltages.
The PSU is just as likely to cause it.
The most of you do run cheap, crappy PSU's (myself included) LOL

OK so I used live update to flash the bios and it worked fine. The biggest difference I have seen is it lowered my cpu temp by about 12 degrees. Great improvement. The new bios seems to let the heatsink fan run faster than the old one. Now running at about 35 degrees and hopefully it will get better after break in.

This may seem like a stupid question, but where are you guys getting the LiveUpdate software and how GOOD is it? Should I only use it after I have updated my Windows to SP2 and chipset drivers, etc?

I was in the process of building two identical computers and I jumped on the Newegg deal with the Biostar nF3 + OEM Athlon 3400+ 754. I wanted to upgrade the BIOS and the .zip file came with a WinFlasher so I used it, on Computer A it was perfect. Computer B's update went very very very slow and then it said verify error. Anyways, I've already RMA'd the board way back when (this was forever ago) and the second board came back A-OK.

I'm just lerry of using it and wanted to check it out before I did. So where did you get the software?

Computer A) I installed XP, took it up to SP2, chipset/LAN drivers, downloaded BIOS and saw it had a WinFlahser, used it and all was well.
Computer B) I installed XP and straight tried to flash the BIOS without installing drivers.

If I use LiveUpdate, how should I do it? Would booting a DOS CD and having your BIOS files on a CD work better, as I've done this before.

i have the neo 4 plat version, i have mixed ram @ a certain clock speed. you just have to tinker with the clock speed to the lowest speed of the ram you're mixing. Be aware that I only have 2 different versions, dont have more than 2 different rams.

Live Update is a program for MSI motherboards. You would have to check the Biostar website to see if they have anything similar.

No live update for me. I don't even have the live update software because I couldn't find it on their site. I initially flashed my BIOS to the link that was mentioned above.
