Hey guys,

I just bought the MS-7125 Ver. 2 board a week ago with a FX-55 and searched the web for information also without any luck. Here is some information that might help. I loaded Windows XP Home and found no OC options in the default bios so I downloaded MSI Live Update, which can be download from MSI's site. It found MS-7125 version 1.0D (5/22/2006) bios so I updated it using the Windows MSI live update program. It's safe as long as you close ALL programs before continuing. I then had all the OC functions in the bios including the Cell menu.

My OC results were very good. Using HTT 4X I was able to do (10x280mhz) FSB @ 2.80ghz. The memory according to cpuz reported around 234mhz. I'm using 2Gb OCZ Platinum PC3200 memory, which tends to be picky about motherboards but is running great in this one. The bios should allow all 939 CPU's including the X2's. Right now I'm running 2.80ghz (200x14) with performance memory timings and it is stable as a rock. Only a sligt increase on the CPU voltage, which is set to 1.425 volts. Idle temp is 36C and full load is 49C. I'm pretty impressed with this $40 motherboard! I have it set up with a evga 7950 GT 512mb video card and it screams in every game I own.

I also got in for 2, on this MSI board. So far it seems to be a stellar purchase for the price. I will come back with my findings when I drop in the Opteron 165. =D

I can't decide what CPU I want to get for this board because I have crappy regular DDR400 RAM (albiet 2x1GB dual channel)

Should I get the Opty 165 and reduce memory clock to 133MHz. This would result in a memory clock of CPU Speed / 14 (i.e. 2800MHz / 14 = 200MHz/DDR400). This would also result in a SUPER HIGH HTT of 311 (311 x 9 = 2800)

Should I get the Athlon X2 4400+ and reduce memory clock to 166MHz. This would result in a memory clock of CPU Speed / 14 (i.e. 2800MHz / 14 = 200MHz/DDR400). This would result in a NOT SO HIGH HTT of 254 (254 x 11 = 2800)

Now, I'm just using 2800MHz as a reference because it seems some (most?) of the Opty's can hit that, but I don't know if the X2 can. How good are the Toledo core X2s when overclocking?

I also thought about using an Opteron 170. That would become CPU Speed / 12 for 166MHz and CPU Speed / 15 for 133MHz. But with 133MHz I'd have to hit 3GHz for my memory clock to be back at 200MHz and with 166MHz I'm pretty limited to 2.4-2.5GHz because of my memory speed.

HELP ME OUT!! Thanks

Leonar - prices on 7600 GTs are already down to under $110 AR @ Newegg. I'm looking more for the $50 range initially, as I want one of those G80 chips, or the new R600s.

But, that $50 card has to do HDTV with little to no noise, so a 7300 or 7600 silent would work. Looks like I can pick up a 7300 LE for about $60 shipped. Won't be great in games, but does what I want in the future. The 7600 GT silent is $130 or so AR.

I purchased this board last week and realized something was funny as well with the Fujitsu logo at post. Got BIOS flashed and everything is booted and working correctly. The only issue I'm having now is my memory speeds. I tried a pair of 513MB DDR400 Corsair memory in dual channel, but it would only recognize it as DDR333. So I put back in my Crucial DDR400 valueram (2x512mb) and it did the same thing. When I took out one of the 512MB crucials, it read it in single channel as DDR400. This is a single sided chip of DDR400. Maybe thats the issue? I'm not so sure anymore. Any suggestions?

Awesome deal. Added a coupon code for $1.99 shipping and a couple of cheap usb optical mice that I needed. $52.47 for all of that shipped!

Try putting your RAM in different slots.

Originally we tried every combination of ways to put the memory in. On the retail neo4 board, the memory slots are greenpurple greenpurple. On this board from geeks.com they are purplepurple greengreen. To run dual channel you usually do pairs in 1 and 3 as well as 2 and 4. Apparently to utilize dual channel on this board, you have to put them in the same color slots. I've got both ram chips in the green slots and its seeing the OCZ memory as dual channel w/ the correct timings.

Say, if there is not a way to connect a speaker to the board, and the board has no integrated alert, how did the OEM hook up any bios beeps?

Haven't tried these, but on the retail version of this board I've only been able to hit around 270-280MHz HTT, with a sample of around 5 of them.

I believe dual channel is slot 1-2 and 3-4, not 1-3 and 2-4, regardless of slot colors on retail board. This OEM board has the color coding done right.

Funny you guys mention HTT.

I want to see if I can run an Opty 165 at 2600MHz or 2800MHz which would require a pretty high HTT on either the 9x or 8.5x multipliers. High as in about 311HTT

I'm currently Orthosing overnight at 300HTT x 6 = 1800MHz on my 2.2GHz Venice. I'm just testing max HTT. I'll update in the morning with how it went. I'll let it run for at least 24 hours before I decide.

If it's not stable I'll go for the 175 or the 4400+ which has a great chance of hitting 2600MHz with a HTT in the mid 250s.

Anyone seen a memory divider setting?

Like were you can set 1:1, 5:6, 4:3, etc.

Also it seems that even with the 1.D bios the max memory clock allowed is 250mhz

Also testing max HTT and as I type this I am priming @ 320HTT.

The memory clock IS the memory divider setting. 250MHz is the highest... indeed if you had an older core you wouldn't even get anything over 200MHz.

200MHz setting = 1:1 because HTT is 200MHz (before overclocking). If you overclock your HTT to 220MHz, the 200MHz "setting" will make your RAM 220MHz. Since memory is DOUBLE Data Rate, then that 200MHz becomes DDR400, or PC3200. At a 200MHz "setting" and with HTT at 220MHz, your RAM becomes DDR440.

300HTT has been stable for a little over 8 hours. Will update when it passes 12 and then 24 later tonight.

sounds like 300HTT is doable on this board that's pretty good for a sub-50 dollar board!

If you're looking for bios beeps, you're probably not wanting to OC on that board.

Lack of a PC speaker isn't a big deal to me, there's not much you can do about a board that goes into BIOS beep mode anyways, especially if it does it with all add-in cards pulled and a single mem module in place.

I'm the odd guy around here, I have not overclcoked anything yet. I had suggested the board to someone as a cheap, but good, 939 board after reading about it in here. I thought all OEM builds always had some sort of alert mechanism in place. Just curious.

I'll admit it's odd, but I've found them relatively useless in the past. You'll usually wind up pulling everything and going with a minimal configuration to see if it posts. You would also swap out the two most common sources, the graphics card and RAM if it still failed to post. If it still doesn't post, something's fried, and for $40, well, you just buy a new one.

Note: I've never had a CPU cause a complete failure to post. I've only seen one bad CPU out of hundreds.

Edit: Kenton - thanks for the data. Makes me even happier I ordered.

Looks like I'll be assisting on the build for my buddy. I'll be charging my usual consultation fee: pizza and beer. Found a new 4600+ X2 for 200.00. Should go pretty good together. Then again, for that much money, might be better to go with a Intel duo core..
Thanks

P.S. He thought I was the PC expert. I laughed, and showed him this forum.
