There's a hidden menu in the BIOS. I was doing some searching on the K8N Neo4 and came across this thread:

K8N Neo4 Hidden BIOS Menu

I tried it and it works on this board also--and offers several new options in the Cell Menu, including accelerating ATI/nVidia graphics cards. There's nothing that I want to try, since I'm happy with my current set-up, but those of you that like to push things may find it interesting to try.

Well, that certainly is neat. I didn't see what other options it offered. Will be neat to play with in any case.

You can achieve the nVidia OC capabilities with a lot more control via the Coolbits registry file mod (mods the registry to add features to your nVidia control center). 3DGuru has it, as do some others. Do a Google search.

I have an ATI card, so I use ATI Tool or ATI Tray Tools.

Thanks! That's a very handy feature; it amazes me how much tweaks you can make to this $40 board after you upgrade the bio to the one modded by syar200. The pro is that it's not OS dependent and so no additional softwares/patches to add to the OS. However it only works with NV4X GPUs which includes Geforce 6000 Series video card.

Where is the bios modded by syar200? What improvements does it offer?

I've read all of this thread, but may have missed/forgotten the info on that bios. (I searched the thread for syar200, but got no results.)

I think this is the one they are talking about

Flashed like a champ and the settings re-appeared. This BIOS is identical to the v.1D.

You can get the W7125NCG.1C0 here. It's an ISO, so download and burn to CD, boot it up and choose the 1C BIOS option.

Good Luck

For anyone who wants to push their system, the W7125NCG.1C0 bio above allows the adjustment of Vcore to greater than 10% over the default. Also it allows for memory voltage bump to greater than 10% as well.
I have been running the my SD 4000+ at 3Ghz, 1.47V (default 1.35V), prime95 stable for 27 hours. The HTT is set at 250x4=1Ghz. The 2x1GB Patriot low latency is running at 200Mhz, 2-3-2-5/1T.
Originally it failed the prime95 after about 2+ hours when setting vcore to 1.43.

Well, my board arrived a few days ago. I plugged in a new 165 opy and an 8800, xms400 and pushed the power button. Fans spun up and hear the hd start but thats it. Nothing shows up on the monitor. Also using a brandnew silverstone 650w ps. Trouble is I don't know if its the card, board, or cpu. I'm screwed...lol

Beeps or no beeps?

Beeps means something is not plugged in correctly, most likely video card not flush or ram not sitting flush.

No beeps means possible load failure, likely with optical drives or storage drives. For instance, if all your hard drives and Cd-rom are set on "Master".

Also just for the heck of it, make sure the power in the back is not on "240" or something.

Yep, it's giving me one beep. I've reseated everything at least five times. I've even tried it out of the case. Isolated it just to one drive, one stick of ram, 8800 and cpu and no go.

Ok, based on this thread I picked up one of these boards and installed an opty 165 and a 1g stick of kingston hyperx. flashed to the 1D bios. Haven't tried oc'ing yet, started with default bios settings and stopped there because I've noticed two odd things right off the bat:

1. post screen reports ddr 333 for my ddr400 memory, cpu-z reports it as ddr400. What's up with that? I saw an earlier post from someone with the same issue, didn't see a resolution to it. 1g stick is in slot 1.

2. cpu-z is reporting my htt as 800mhz. With my fsb defaulting to 200, and the default htt multi at 5x, I would have thought this would be 1000mhz, before tweaking?

Are there conditions under which cpu-z reports incorrectly? Or is there something I'm missing about htt (expected 1000mhz, cpu-z reported at 800mhz) and/or mem speed (expected ddr400, cpu-z reports that, but post reports ddr333)?

Anyone know the build date of BIOS W7125NCG.1C0?

Hey. I'm getting ready to buy this MOBO but had one question. Does it support DDR-533 (PC2700)? I know it probably does, but I didn't see it in the Geeks link.

I hope you meant DDR333 aka PC2700. DDR2 533 would be a no go. SDRAM, 168-pins; DDR, 184-pins; DDR2, 240-pins.

When all else fails, RTFM. "... eight memory banks DDR 266/333/400, using four 184-pin DDR DIMMs."

It seems to work well with the Kingston and Ultra PC3200 memory that I have installed.

Yeah, sorry I don't know what I was thinking when I typed that . DDR333 is what I have. Thanks for the info, this will make a great new HTPC board for me.

Someone posted something about their board having a post beep when they booted it up, but how can that be when there's no hookup for an internal speaker? Does the post beep go through regular (external) speakers if they're hooked up? I have an Abit board that does that, and while I find it annoying, it could be a substitute for the missing internal speaker header.

Help!

I decided to try oc'ing my setup as follows: 1D bios, opty 165, 2x512 kingston hyperx. I can't get a reliable post with anything other than stock settings. I am sure I am missing something. Even stock is a little weird since sometimes cpu-z reports a 1000mhx htt, sometimes it reports 800 (i checked, ht multi is set on default 5x, and cpu freq set on 200).

I've tried several different sticks of mem, no difference. I tried several different psu's, no difference. I happen to have two of these boards, so I tried same cpu/mem in both, same results. The opty is good stepping, and even if it weren't, I ought to be able to stray a little from stock. No dice. So, what am I missing? The bios terminology is a little strange to me (aggressive timing? disabled it).

Might I need to be pumping core voltage up just to begin with (I did try the +3.3% setting just for grins, no difference).

With all of the success reported here, I figured I'd get an easy 2.2gghz right off the bat, but my results have me doubting my noob oc'ing knowledge. What have I missed? Something special I need to do for dual core? Maybe I'll see if I fare any better with a spare 3000+ I have on hand.

AMD Opty 165
HyperX 512MB (2)
MSI Neo 4 with 1.D

CPU 2430
Multi 9.0
HTT 270
HT Multiplier 3
2.5 -3 -3 - 6 1T (220.9MHz - 442 DDR)

Had to bump the processor voltage 6% but I think other than that everything is huming along nicely. Hope this helps and thanks again OP!!!

Well, after running flawlessly for a few weeks, my PS2 mouse port took a dump on me last night. Took the PS2 adapter off and tried another adapter. No go. Plugged it into one of the zillion USB ports and it took right off.... So guys, keep an eye on it.....

I currently have an FX-60 Dual-Core in a K8N Neo2 Platinum.... besides going from AGP to PCI Express, would this be $49 well spent on a small motherboard upgrade, or will I not really see any difference from where I am now?

Since you could pair a next gen video card with that beast of a processor.

I did the same for my dad so that he could leverage his processor and 2gb of ram into the future, no regrets here

Yeah, I'm running a BFG 6800 OC right now (AGP, 128MB) and I've noticed AGP upgrade options are limited. I just didn't know whether this was worth the $50 or if I'd need to spring for a $100+ motherboard (SLI or otherwise) to see a real difference from my Neo2. You're right, I would like to eventually move up to a better next gen video card....

I should mention that part of my question involves some concern over moving from a nice retail Neo2 (that's worked great for me for 2-3 years) to a bulk/OEM Neo4 that, at least from reading through this thread, may or may not have issues with voltage, dual-core processors, PS/2 ports, etc. So "quality" is a partial concern if I'm ditching my retail mobo for a bulk/OEM one.

Abem3: thanks for the info. Good to know there's nothing about the opty/hyperx mix that can be causing my problems (at least generically, I guess I could always have gotten bad sticks).

I swapped out the opty 165 for a venice 3000+, and was able to easily post up to 2250mhz, which is much further than the opty will go. I mentioned that I have been swapping between psu's, but I didn't mention that they're all budget models . Perhaps the constraint with the opty is related to the voltage quality (I assume single-core venices are more forgiving?).

How sensitive to voltage quality are these boards? I had a couple of cheap psu's on hand, thought I'd just play with the board before getting serious. Is that my problem? I'll have to bite the bullet and swap out a better psu from a different rig and see if I can get anywhere with the opty.

My Opteron 165 will easily do 2.6GHz on this board, Ultra 2GB Ram, Ultra X-Finity 500 watt PS. It will do better than 2.6GHZ if I had better cooling. Read the entire thread. Many of us are overclocking the Opteron 165 on this board.
