To anyone that has this board, do you know how to get booting from a USB stick/key to work? I know that my Sandisk Cruzer Micro is bootable as I have tested it with my other computers, but I cannot get it to boot from this MSI (Platinum). I've tried to set all the booting options (all the USB-FDD, USB-ZIP, etc.) also enabled 'Boot Other Device'. Even tried disconnecting all the harddrives! It detects that the USB key is there, as it lists it in the summary screen (Where is usually says ESCD something or other), but with just the USB key there, it will hang, presumably because it can't boot it.

Anyone successfully managed it?

Hey All!! I am new to forum. I am building a system around the MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum. (NON SLI)

I just wanted to peep in and see how the board was working for you all. I wont have rest of my gear for 3-4 weeks

Anywho. Is the board doing ok? I will have an OCZ Powerstream 520. I am tired of lagging rails.

way to make me look like an ass.

you're the kindest ass i know

if all it does is take up 1 ram dimm slot, it's worth it, especially since all i have right now is 1x1024mb . . . i dont see myself passing 2GB

doesnt help that i got a big old hepa air purfier right under my pc too.
but ive stuck my head in my case while its running and i cant hear any loud noise coming
from that area of the board... dunno i might be crazy

I just finished building my system with this board two days ago, and so far it has been awesome. I've had one crash but that may have been me screwing around with some voltages in core cell (ram came default at 2.7V, lowered it to 2.5V and crashed an hour later. Runs fine at 2.7V though).

Has anyone used nTune yet? Whenever I start up nTune it says something to the effect of "PCI Clock is locked to the HT Bus" and it tells me that I have to lock the PCI clock or risk instability. Where do I do this? I didn't see any options in the BIOS to do it.

Got my system build and just started playing with overclocking yesterday. The system build went great and it started right off.

Currently cpu is at 10x220
Memory is at 1:1 at 2-2-3-8 1T V2.75
HTT at 4X

I havnt done any long term testing at that but it is prime95 stable for over 30 minutes

When I try and go to 225 though the memory checks out ok still but prime95 fails quickly. I ran memcheck over night and it runs clean. So I have a few questions on what keeps me from going up.

First off - which SATA ports are locked? I think it might be 5-8 and my hard drive is on 1. Could this be part of the problem?

Does PCI-E have a lock as well? Could the video card be causing me problems?

My VCore is at default so I can turn it up some. My system runs at around 34c max.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

I've had the Neo4 for a few days now - runs really great and very silent.

Athlon64 3500+ (90nm)
Zalman cu7700
Club3d x800xl (was amazed by the quality - thought club3d was shitty)
2x 512 MB Kingston DDR500/PC4000
WD Raptor 74 GB
Audigy 2
NEC 2500A DVDR

Powers it all with a totally silent 300W HEC PSU (these are freaking amazing - bought 4 of them for 75$)

CPU temp's are idle=case temp - and 44C under full load.

I've noticed the chipset fan noise too. Drowns out the AMD stock CPU fan and case fans.

I wonder if anyone's tried replacing it with a Zalman heatsink or, if anyone out there has the guts, tried unplugging the fan and seeing what kind of temps result?

they put a fan there for a reason, i doubt anyone will try that. those chips can get real hot real fast.

I've seen 2 different types of chipset HSF on these boards from various pictures, a round gold one and a square gray one. What type are people receiving on their boards? I wonder if MSI might be using them interchangeably and if one is louder than the other...

My board should be here on Wed., my 3200+ is here. I may do some preliminary testing but it may not be too meaningful as it'll be with my current PSU and RAM. Still need to finalize my choices and buy these parts. I have to buy my vid card too, but I have an old S3 PCI card to futz around with for testing.

Okay I've just about F*#@ing had it. I've got me one these boards a week ago with a A64 3200+ 939 pin 90nm, (2) 512MB PQI Turbo PC4000 (500Mhz) memory and started it off at 260 Mhz FSB and 4x Hypertransport Multiplier. I can not get Prime 95 Torture Test to run without errors. I've adjusted Cpu & Memory voltage in all configuration, then at default voltage with 250Mhz FSB, 8X CPU Multiplier that way the memory is running in its rated speed of 500 Mhz as well as the cpu rate speed of 2.0 Ghz. What the hell gives.

the xp-120 fits from what i read on the xtremesystems forum... many people says it takes up 1 ram dimm slot. i think there were pictures posted also. but 120 is hellllllllllla big lol. i would stick with the xp-90. well my rig is almost done i just need my winchester cpu now. just got my x800 xt pci-e =D

also would you guys use the xp-120 or the thermaltake tower 112 ? the thermaltake got plenty good reviews and you can run dual fans =D
