MSI KT3 Ultra fsb wisdom needed.....

Here's the specs

KT3 Ultra motherboard w/latest bios
Athlon 1.4
350 enermax
2-256 2100 Crucial
2-80mm fans
Win98

Problem: With the cold weather I'm getting bored I guess. I'm running at 1.6 (12x133)@1.74v with an idle temp of 41-42c.
This is fine. However I see people with all these fsb settings 145, 149, 156, etc. I can't boot at any of these and I'm getting cranky. If I try for example 10x150 I lock up, can't boot, and either have to reset the board or wait for things to cool down before rebooting.
Is it primarily the limitations of the board itself?
I realize the chip itself won't do over 1.6.
My thinking is (which is a problem in itself) if I lower the multiplier and up the fsb I should get lower temps correct?

Your thoughts and wisdom usually sets me straight ans is appreciated!!!

The highest I can get is 1.6 (11.5x139) 1.725v
If I try 140 windows (Win98) won't load
Is that it for this chip?

the kt3 ultra has a 1/5th divider that kicks in automatically at 152fsb. i had trouble running anything from 145-150fsb, but when i just dropped the multiplier and set the fsb to 166, it ran fine. this was with xp1600s though...as far as lower temps, it mostly depends on the voltage you're pumping through the chip....i don't think by upping the fsb and lowering the multiplier will give you lower temps...

This board has some issues. I can run at 144 and even 152. As soon as I hit 154 it crashes. At one time it used to run 166 then 162 now it is at 142 since it is my kids box anyway - why bother. Cheap board so I do not really care. One thing i do know I am not buying another VIA chipset board.
