*edit* well it seems like the bios is easily corruptable, some of my options will be random things (strange ascii characters) for options such as cpu vcore. I also took off the HS to double check the contact... it seemed ok, a little smudged one way tho (hard to explain). but i think it was mainly heat related tho. it finally booted, but now still unstable, so now the fan is running w/o the resistor.

it was only hitting 53-54C (prime load) tho before i removed the resistor.. and windows would lock up. now it's 50/51 but seems to run fine. grr.. oh well, it works, i'll work on cooling next.

Ok, i just bought this combo from newegg for a friend, and it doesn't seem to support it properly. From MSI's link to AMD's list, it seems you need reversion 1.0A1 for proper support.

now, I take it "A1" would have to be printed on the PCB, or am I wrong?

What is basically happening is it will run at 1.1ghz raw speed and be labeled as an athlon. and the pc health status in the bios reports only 1.5v to the vcore. up it to 1700+ speeds, and i cannot boot into windows at all.

Any help would be appreciated

I got the same deal. Everything works great here. Make sure that your memory isn't set to hostclk+33 or something...that might do it. Also my memory doesn't like the "performance settings" so make sure you start with it turned way down and move back up from there. I have mine running 10x166 with the retail hsf. It boots lots higher than that, but it crashes after windows loads.

What is the easist way to bump the voltage up an extra .5 volts? It's running ~1.6v now which is as high as the bios will let me go. If I could hit 1.65 (xp2200+ voltage) I think I could do 12x166(1992) or at the very least 11.5x166(1909). Is there a bios out there that would let me do that?

you're runnign at 1.6v as well? see, here's where i see the problem, is the tred suppose to run at 1.65v? you might have a lucky cpu that will run at normal speeds at a lower voltage...

as for the memory, even if it was at hclk+33, the ram should handle it fine (pc2700). regardless, it's running at hclk.

what bios revision are you running btw?

The chip is supposed to run at 1.5v, 1.65v is for the higher models. The bios came with it...its dated 7/20/02

is anyone else still checking this thread?

The 1700+ t-bred is revision "A" which runs at 1.5v standard. The higher T-bred models use 1.65v, which I think starts with 2400+. I have the same 1700+ t-bred CPU and mobo.

I have a question for anyone else who looks in this thread. The highest multiplier setting I can get to on my Ultra2 is 12.5x right now. If I choose 14x or 15x, the POST recognizes it as 533 or 666 MHz (as if it was 4x or 5x). Anyone know why this is so? I would appreciate any feedback. Also, the 12.5/13.0x multiplier BIOS option chooses 12.5x--how do I get it to choose 13.0x? The setting I'm running are:

MSI KT3 Ultra2
latest BIOS level 5.6
133 FSB
AMD 1700+ 0.13 T-bred A
Crucial DDR2100

Thoroughbreds are only unlocked up to 12.5 if you try to use the 14 and 15 multipliers it will default to the lowest multiplier
