MSI KT4 Ultra ECC Reg support?

Anybody know if this motherboard will support a 512mb Registered ECC PC2700 DDR module? There's no information whatsoever on ECC support on MSI's site, and I don't know enough about the board to guess.


Somebody buying said ram module from me depends on its working correctly with the KT4 Ultra, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

All Via chipsets of the KT133, 266, etc. series support ECC and registered and should support a 512MB module in one socket. Registered memory or ECC is slower than standard memory and registered is usually only needed if you intend to populate more than two sockets with RAM. Also, if one stick is registered, all sticks should be registered - same with ECC as ECC cannot be enabled if all memory modules don't support it.
. However some mobo mfrs don't support ECC in the BIOS Setup. Ask your customer to check thru the pages of his BIOS setup to make sure the option is there to enable/ disable ECC.
. So, if max performance is important to him, he wouldn't want to use that module- if stability and reliability is more important then that module would be a reasonable choice as long as he doesn't intend to use it along with a standard module(s).
