MSI KT7 Turbo ? IDE Problem

When I connect HD on ide 1 and cdrom on ide 2 BIOS only recognizes HD but not the cdrom. When I flip the cable (cdrom on ide1 and HD on ide2) everything is recognized fine. But the manual says that HD should always be connected to ide1. Am I taking a performance hit by connecting HD on ide2? I did tried every BISO available for that board.

I've bever run into this problem with the K7T Turbo myself. You might want to field your question the MSI gang at

It's a long shot but... is your harddrive drive configured for cable select on its jumper?
Consider this scenario: IDE hdd on cable select on cable port 1, CDROM on master on port 2. I think the hdd will not be detected because it's set by the cable on master because its on port 1 on the cable. On the other hand, if you put the hdd (cable select mode) on port 2, and CDRom (Master) on port 1, then everything should work just fine. CDRom would be master device and HDD would be slave. Is that the case with your problem?

Try to solve the problem if it bothers your conscience, but honestly, I've seen computers configured with the dvd-rom on the primary, and hdd on the secondary, and performance was identical.
