It simply doesn't work, regardless of what BIOS I use. I choose save and exit in the bios and the monitor shuts off anf the system never posts again till i clear the CMOS. Is this a commen thing or do i need to RMA it?

Only happens when trying to change the multiplier, chip is unlocked from AMD. Voltage, FSB, ect doesn't make a difference.

Are you absoulutley sure the chip is unlocked? I've heard of the problem, but never experienced it. If you can see any gap in those bridges, sometimes takes a magnifier to do it, then it's not.

Yep, I'm sure. The same chip (tbird 650) did 900 on my A7V. I can clock it to 600 and it still won't start(no post anything till i clear the cmos). Tried a few others i had and I get the same thing. Tried BIOS 1.9, 2.0, and the overclockers BIOS posted here somewere.

I had a Pro2A that did not multiplier overclock properly ( higher settings POSTed and ran much lower than set ), or with certain multiplier settings not POST at all. This was with two Loctite unlocked T-Birds that multiplier overclock perfectly in my KT7. I even went as far as to re-do the Loctite on one of them, even though I knew it did not need it.

This issue has been cropping up a good bit lately, with review sites, and forum members. I sent mine back. If you have a factory unlocked processor, and it will not multiplier overclock, I would send the board back if I were you and get it replaced, or just wait for the better boards that will be here soon.

I had almost the same problem. It will overclocked to 800, anything higher will not pass post. I can OC the same CPU to 1G with ASUS. BTW, the LED on it was RGRR when it stuck.

same problem here...got a 650 Duron from Compuwiz pretested at 950, but on the Pro2A I find that no matter what I do I can't get the multiplier to work...well actually I did get it to work at 8.5 and under...weird
will do more testing...

Umm...

I had a problem where I could get as far as the memory check and then the thing would just hang -- some of the time it wouldn't even get anything on the screen (and hang). Turns out the video card was crappy (it was a 6yr old pull ). I would be able to reset the CMOS and start afresh and then go right back to hanging. I don't know what your led is showing so you might have a different problem.

The system now rocks with a Geforce2MX card! Need to get some grease before I overclock.

So, anyone figured this one out yet? I just received a pro2a and my duron 600 is a no go beyond 8.5 multiplier. It ran 900 easily on the kt7. Maybe I should have gotten the kt7.

vman, are you seeing a higher than 8.5 multiplier in the bios?
Voltage?
Cooling?
Thermal paste being used?

compuwiz,

in the bios I see the options for greater than 8.5 multiplier but anytime I try them I can't get the board to post. I tried every voltage all the way up to 1.85 (using overclockers bios), still no go. Using FOP-38, took off the thermal pad and using AOC thermal paste. I get a stablized cpu temperature reading (thermal diode) of about 37 celcius after running prime95 for hours.

Seems something fishy with these mobos though, as the number 8.5 seems to be a pretty common barrier. The review of the Pro2 at Hardocp also says they had problems after 8.5
From reading these posts it appears that after 8.5 either the board won't post or the multiplier is whacked (like shows up as 6 or something)

I also had this problem. You maybe trying to raise the multiplier too high, and/or your cpu is overheating and/or your trying to change the clocking of a CPU that has not been unlocked.

As an experiment, try putting a large House fan directly on the computer with the cover off. If the Cpu is unlocked properly and the CPU boots after changing the multiplier than you simply have poor ventilation. Time to upgrade the heat sink and fans.

Regarding the unlocking of the cpu: Use alcohol to "erase" the pencil markings you have already made and start again with the pencil trick. You may want to buy and "electrical marker" it will be more effective than using the pencil. Connecting the L1 bridges seems very easy in theory but without decent eyesite it is easy to make a mistake. A lot of people mess up by overextending the lines.

I had the same problem with it not posting past 8.5. However, using loctite instead of a pencil cured my ills. Not sure if it will work for everyone. Now, I can get to 9.5 no problem.
