Allows PPGA Celeron , FCPA celeron, FCPA Coppermine chips to work on slot 1 motherboards.

also allows overclocking, and voltage adjustment for mobo's that are cheaper.

I bought this very slotkey from Onvia and love it. If you're in the market for a slotkey, I highly recommend this one, especially at tht price.

FINALLY. I ordered three at the end of August...and JUST got
off the phone with Onvia. They confirmed they're in stock
and mine will finally ship out.

Agnivarsh: As someone noted, slotkets allow you to use a PPGA or
FCPGA format chip on a motherboard that only supports "slot
1". Slot 1, PPGA and FCPGA are all PHYSICAL chip formats.
Motherboards are generally designed to accept only either
Slot 1 or else PPGA/FCPGA format chips. To use PPGA or FCPGA
chips on a Slot 1 motherboard, you need the slotket.

Why would you want to? 1) If you want to use a celeron, modern
celerons ONLY come as PPGA or FCPGA. If you want to use one
on a Slot 1 motherboard, you have no choice. 2) Most Pentium III
chips come in both FCPGA and Slot 1 variants. The difference is
that the FCPGA version is generally cheaper--sometimes a lot
cheaper (they're cheaper for Intel to produce). So if you
are shopping for the cheapest, say, 700Mhz PIII chip, you can
save some bucks buying the FCPGA version and placing it on
a slotket. 3) Some slotkets allow you to adjust the voltage
and/or front side bus speeds that will apply to the chip on
the slotket. These features can be valuable if you want to
overclock, or if you want to use chips that for some reason
are not supported natively by your motherboard. For example,
with the right slotket, you might be able to use a Coppermine
(current Intel line) chip on a board that was designed before
Coppermines existed, and hence does not natively support the
lower voltages required by these chips.

B*stards.

I ordered a 633 and the MSI6905 from Onvia on the 29th after they told me the Slotkets would be in on 10/2. The day after the order was placed they sent me an email saying that it wouldn't be until 10/30. Before I could contact them they sent another email saying that "the estimated date of availability for this item is indefinite." So I get to order the MSI somewhere else for $25 with shipping, $15 extra, and have to sit here with my 633 in hand while I wait for the slotket to arrive.

I won't be ordering from Onvia again.

I just got a call back from Onvia. The woman said that
they'd made a mistake and that the slotkets are NOT in
stock and would NOT be shipping...

FYI,

That's strange. My order status already says that mine has been shipped.

I have been pretty happy with Onvia with all the coupons I have used in the past. However, it seems that they are not good with getting the inventory information from their multiple warehouses.

I gambled that their stock status was correct this time and I ordered one.
I guess I can cancel the back-ordered Startech slotket I ordered last month before they discovered it was really out of stock even though their Web site said it was in stock.

I placed an order for a couple of these in September because the CSR told me that they are expecting a large order in on 9/24. I never received anything so I called to check status earlier this week and was told that they had no ETA. I canceled my order.

I could still use one so I ordered again today. We will see. With Onvia, it's a coin flip.

What? no one has started a class action law suit against Onvia for being out of stock on a $10.94 Slocket?

Is this the one that supports smp?

Q: has anyone ever gotten an email from Onvia that their order had shipped *before* actually receiving the order at their door??

If Onvia bombs out ... I'll have a few MSI 6905's on the FS/FT board in a couple days, just as soon as I inventory everything I'm putting up for sale.

Would getting this Slocket and putting it on my P2 motherboard enable me to use a faster processor on my board? My P2 board will only take a 450 Mhz cpu.

Thx

Depending on what mothernoard you have, there is probably a bios update that will allow CPU's faster than 450mhz to be used with it. Even if there is no update, any Celeron would probably run fine since it only needs a 66mhz FSB. It may not show the true speed at boot up without a bios update.

These are the BEST slotkets for overclocking, btw. Don't ever use anything less

Great quality build, always reliable

I have one on my celeron 533 (@840), 566 (@892), and 633 (@950) on cheap bx boards. these are rock solid.

definite great buy. I paid $15 shipped for mine, cause i didn't want to wait.

I doubt that it is really in stock. I ordered one three weeks ago and they haven't shipped it yet. The order status for that in my order says "Backordered". If any of you just ordered it and had it ship, needless to say, I will be pissed off.

will this slocket work with my Asus P3V4X ??? I want to get one for future upgrades, but I am VERY scared of getting this slocket and have it not compatible with my mobo. Should I get a Asus slocket (if they make such a thing)?
