I'm planning to buy a GeForce 6600 GT AGP8X, and I'm hesitating between the MSI and the XFX.
Of course, the XFX is like 20 bucks cheaper, but I don't think there's game in it. And what about the card? More performance with the MSI?

I just need to know if the MSI is worth the 20 bucks.

I need your feedbacks!

Thanks!

back in my days before XFX even existed... when MSI was just being born... MSI was a peice of crap.
MSI i hear has come a long way... but I still don't use (many) MSI stuffs. Now with the choice of getting a new video card... between chaintech, XFX, eVGA...seems as tho MSI might be the better choice. I had a bad XFX and chaintech video card previously... I guess any can be bad

I had a video card once... a gf2Ultra that came directly from nvidia... it worked fine.... power color stuff has given me fair luck. ATI stuff seems good. So nerve wracking having to buy a new video card..hehe

I had an MSI card a long time ago (like a geforce 2 or something) and had no problems. I got an XFX 6600 GT little over a week ago and had to RMA it back to Mwave. One of the DVI ports didn't output a digital signal. Got a new card and it works fine for me. It seems to benchmark a little slower than the previous one, but no artifacts. My suggestion to you is to go to the XFX site and go into the bulletin boards first. There's a lot of people saying they have various problems with their cards. For me the new card works fine, but I don't play too many games and I don't overclock. It is the first video card I've ever had to RMA tho. The dual DVI was the only selling point for me on this card. If you don't need it, I'd say go with one of the more reputable cards like a Leadtek. The XFX comes with X2, Commandos 3 and Nascar Thunder 2K4 for games. If you want games get the MSI. I see gameve.com has it for $212 now.

DO NOT BUY XFX. Their customer service is literally criminal. There are numerous reports of problems with their cards. Sure you may very well get a working one, but if you don't you're basicly screwed, considering how cheap and hideous their support is. So why not buy elsewhere and save the potential hassle. AGAIN DO NOT BUY XFX. XFX=THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! Why do I say this ? Because I may the mistake of buying an XFX 6800GT. WORSE POSSIBLE CHOICE! I have also talked to lots of people who are in the same boat. XFX=RUBBISH!

I crrently have the XFX 6600GT, and I can say it works great for me. I've e-mailed their tech support a couple times about nVidia driver bugs and they've been quick & responsive. I've in the past e-mailed MSI and they for the most part refuse to provide tech support. For a while, MSI would not even allow you to e-mail them, all product support had to be through the retailler. They've probably changed their stance a bit since then - though if you go onto an MSI support forum you'll hear about all the masses of people who absoluely hate MSI's tech support (and I've seen them, I don't think MSI hosts that support forum anymore though, no one from MSI ever monitored the forum anyways even though it was hosted by them).

So what am I saying? I'm saying that for any given company you will find groups of people who absolutely love them, and groups of people who absolutely hate them. Don't take the advice of a single person or even a single forum. Like, I own a Dodge Dakota, and there's a forum site for them, and in the problems forum everyone thinks they're the worst POS's ever made and every single person experiences massive problems. But over in the custom audio forum, most everyone loves their Dakotas and wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. Get the point?

Methinks these folks work for XFX or something.. lol.. DO NOT BUY XFX, RUBBISH SUPPORT, RUBBISH PRODUCT! If you like just call or e-mail their tech support, pretend to have a problem with one of their cards, enjoy the hilarious response!

But the thing is that the XFX is like 55 bucks (CAD) cheaper than the MSI one. MSI may be better.. but for 55 bucks?

From my experiance with XFX, you get what you pay for. I had 2 crap 6800 series cards (ie. wouldn't open 3d apps)

Ok. I just saw the little comparison Anandtech did with the cards. They say the Leadtek one is the best but this card is rare here in Canada.
They took the XFX Extreme "Edition" to do the comparison... what about the normal one?

I'm so confused.

I noticed the heatsink on the MSI 6600GT AGP is different than the one mounted on the MSI 6600GT PCI express card. It looks like the AGP card has a spring clip on the back of the card to hold the heatsink on.

Anyone have the MSI 6600GT AGP? Just wondering if the heatsink is more secure than the PCI express version.

My last five major system builds have been MSI mainboards and they've been great. On the other hand, XFX is apparently owned by Pine, and I've heard some real horror stories about support if you need it. The dual DVI XFX has is a neat feature, but MSI at least has some support within the USA...the last few people that reported trying to get ahold of XFX had a terrible time and a few were apparently redirected to someone in Asia who couldn't communicate well with them. If you're not into MSI, I'd choose someone other than XFX too.

P.S. So far, MSI has the best cooler I've seen for their AGP 6600GT, it appears to be copper and covers all the RAM.
