So they are making <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http:// motherboards with the same chipset?
I guess this, the [L=MSI P6N SLI-F]http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130082">two</a> is the non-overclocking one.

I've had a P6N SLI for just over a week now. I bought the "non" overclocking one as it was already available. Currently have an E6600 running stable at 3.00Ghz. It will go further but I get into problems with the north bridge overheating - have ordered an active cooler to solve this though

Everything else seems about the same as the asus 650 board the anandtech have already reviewed.

The only slight glitch that I have found is that the bios occaionally does odd things with the CPU multiplier - at one point it had me posting with a 10x multiplier  , which shouldnt be possible with an E6600 and fairly unsurprisingly it wouldnt boot windows at 4.2Ghz, but the fact that it let me into bios to find that out is pretty impressive in itself.

What FSB speeds have you been able to achieve?

This board is looking very interesting at it's current price, but I don't think my Tuniq will fit on it with that huge NB heatsink.

I am currently running with a 335Mhz FSB which is the fastest I can manage on stock voltages. Before I realised that I was overheating the northbridge I was able to boot windows at about 400Mhz with increased voltages though. So will post back at the end of the week when have added a fan to the northbridge.

As far as the CPU cooler is concerned I have a Scythe Ninja installed - which I think is partly why the northbridge is overheating because its design looks to rely on the fan on the cpu cooler to circulate air over it to cool it. But I think that attaching a 40mm fan to the installed heatsink should solve this.

Oops - just had a look at the packaging and I apparently do have a P6N SLI-FI board, on the international website they leave the FI bit off.

As far as I can tell the difference between the P6N SLI FI and the P6NSLI PLATINUM is that the platinum has solid capicitors and a better passive heatsink, everything else appears to be the same.

The difference between the Platinum and the FI is that the Platinum comes with
  • a heat-pipe cooling
  • all solid capacitors (vs. only parital solid capacitors in the FI)
  • an eSATA port in the real panel
  • both an optical and coaxial S/PDIF outs in the real panel (vs. only an optical one in the FI)
  • extra accessories

I do and it works great in IMO I haven't done any overclocking with it yet but at stock speeds w/an E6400 and an 8800 gts 360 it's vey stable and Quake 4 and HL2 run smooth as a babys bottom with all the eye candy cranked up at a res of 1680x1050

Can those of you who have the P6N SLI and have it working post your system specs. I'm interested in what RAM you're using in particular.

Core 2 Duo E6400 Conroe 2.13GHz
pqi TURBO 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 667 Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model PQI25400-2GDB
Leadtek PX8800 GTS TDH 320MB GeForce 8800GTS
Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500JS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

I've been running this rig for over a week now and the longer I run it the more I like it
I'm now firmly back in the Intel camp

Core 2 duo E6300 @2.6Ghz stock volts
2GB G-Skill 6400CL4D 2GBPK 1.95 volts
EVGA 8800GTS
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB

Stock volts all around except the memory, rock solid in orthos for 15+ hours, idles at 31C with Thermaltake Ultra 120. I did place a small fan to the side of the northbridge heatsink. Memory is currently unlinked, I am still planning on pushing the overclock further and will work on the memory later.

Good to see this board up and running well for early owners. So far sounds like a lot smoother launch than a few other 650is that are out there, but its early. The Platinum is on sale at the egg right now for $155. That's where I'm leaning.

I believe, compared to the Asus P5N-E-SLI, the MSI Platinum has 8 channel sound (vs 6), an extra pci slot, heat-pipe cooling (Asus with no SB cooling!), and 5 SATA cables (vs 2). I see FSB at Newegg says "1066/800" although isn't this a typo (should be 1333/1066)? Any other notable differences, positive or negative, that y'all can think of?

All of the above, combined with positive initial reviews its getting put the MSI as the leader in the 650i category for me. I've been patiently waiting for Gigabyte but am wondering if we'll ever see theirs .

I finally pulled the trigger on this board and bought it off of the Egg today. Like Edge says above, I haven't seen anyone having issues with this board yet, although it is still early, so it seems like a safe bet. Here are the specs of my upcoming machine that I should be building next week:

MSI P6N SLI PLATINUM
EVGA 320-P2-N815-AR 8800GTS 320MB
SILVERSTONE OP750 750W POWER SUPPLY
CORE 2 DUO E6600
2GB G.SKILL F2-6400CL4D-2GBPK
250GB SE16 WD2500KS

Bump that. Nice rig Dobeez - hope you tell us how the build goes.

Does anyone know if this HSF will fit on the Platinum 650i?
