1.3x?? The MSI Global site only lists up to 1.2...is there another source to download from?

No these bios upgrades come directly from msi tech support however if you'll pm me your email address I'll send it to you.

thanks for the help

Just curious - why not change FSB to 1333 (9x333), RAM at 667? If you make the RAM 1T it will run at the equivalent of 800MHz 2T bandwidth, or so I've heard. Wiht this setup you'd get your 3.0 GHz OC using the 9x multi. I've never tried to lower a multi so that's why I threw this option out there. Less demand on your mobo also.

yeah, the extra fsb really dosent make much of a difference in performance, if you've got a high multiplier id use it.

i took the advice and went with 1333 with a 667memory. things seem to be very stable now for 2 days. no problems at all with it. didn't need to increase any voltages except i increased the ram volts up to 2.0 as thats why the Patriot extremes are said to use. so far so good, appreciate the suggestions. i dont know how much better the computer would be at 800 vs the 667mhz for the ram but its nice as is so ill leave it for a bit

i finally got fed up with my temps and unplug'd all the cords, took it out to the table to work on it. low and behold i had plug'd in the fan controller for my Tuniq120 but had forgotten to plug in the actual power. HA.. couldn't believe it when i saw it but hey that was about as easy of a fix as i could have asked for.

now running OC'd at 3.0 (333x4) idle temps at 34 and load temps 42. (not to mention its 90 out today which isn't helping).

thanks much folks for the help.

Nice, Kuda - glad its working out:thumbsup:. You can set your RAM to 1T if you haven't done that already. Tighten the timings also, probably.

Running the Platinum with an e4300.

Stable at 333x9 or 375x8 for 3ghz effective.

DDR800 OCZ Platinum Rev2 running 1:1 in either config, set to 2.0 volts and 15-4-4-4.

All else stock voltages on all stock cooling.

Not going to try any higher until I install my fan setup, AS5, and XP120, and that will likely just be for kicks, since bumping vcore and northbridge always adds a disproportionate output of heat, power consumption and noise.

Windows XP misreports my 375x8 as 375x9, though. According to BIOS and POST multiplier is at 8. CPU-Z reports same.

One thing I don't like is that I can't go into hibernation mode anymore, though. Guess that was because I disabled C1E?

2:30a Saturday morning... put a system together for a friend yesterday using P6N Platinum. We plan to overclock but had some problems installing vista. Finally installed, but running terribly slow. That on top of the random install issues, I hate to start overclocking thinking something may be wrong. I'll need your help to overclock (things to change in bios, assuming I know nothing and starting from scratch). I also need to know what software to use for stability testing.

But before all that I need to make sure nothing else is wrong with it. I mentioned in my other post that the hard drive seems louder than it should be. It runs like it's out of memory and running from a swap file... sort of. But it has 4GB ram, so that isn't the issue. I downloaded WD bootable iso's that contain DOS tools for hd diagnostics. As soon as my windows update finishes I will try that. The windows update is going to install sata driver also. We'll see where it stands after I get some rest and try these WD tools. It is a raptor drive by the way. Any suggestions, feel free to reply here or in my post about lockups during vista install.

Looking forward to OC'ing this thing...

oh... and the issue I was having was because the board has an issue using 4gb memory... or 4 chips... not sure which. But it was fixed with a beta bios update not available on their website, had to find it in the msi forums, using 1.32 (newest as of right now as far as i know) in case anyone wants to know

I know the term "upgrade" is a hopelessly deceptive term for computers because every 18 months you are REPLACING not upgrading - but it was nice to see I could use my pimp good old Thermalright XP 120 with a $5 mounting bracket instead of wasting $50 more on a 'new' HSF.

I am using my Nbridge fan, I have to duct tape it down though otherwise it will just fall onto my video card and has before, I got a fanmate for it so the noise isnt to bad. Temps seems reasonable maybe a tad warm to the touch. btw on my last OC it was .0125 not .125 my mistake. EDIT: my cpu runs a tad warm though 52c under dual p95 load 42c in game and bout 39c idle

Good day.

Gentlemen I have a C2D E6420, Mobo P6n SLI-FI with the Bios V2.1 and Ram 2x1024 Corsair XMS2 Cas 4, somebody knows how can i set the exact values of the voltages? In order to be able to get 3,2 Ghz in OC and if can i leave the ram 4-4-4-12 - 2t.

CPU Voltage ?
Mem Voltage ?
NB Voltage ?
SB Voltage ?
FSB VTT Voltage ?

THX.

CPU Voltage ? ( try 1.35 ( +0.0325 i think)... then 1.375.. personally don't like goign over 1.4)
Mem Voltage ? (1.9v as thats what your ram are rated at)
NB Voltage ? (1.4 should work here.. if not then 1.45)
SB Voltage ? (leave it alone if you can. if you must bump it up only 0.1)
FSB VTT Voltage ? (try no change... then 2%)

with your 6420 you have an 8x multiplier so you need to set up above ratings for FSB to 1600 with memory at 800 and leave your 8x multiplier.

that will give you 400x8 = 3.2ghz that you are looking for with 800mhz ram at 1:1 ratio.

1.9volts seems low for voltage for your ram to run t1 at 4.4.4.12 but hopefully it works for you. might have to lower that to 5.5.5.12

good luck. these get hot with those settings so i hope you have a good aftermarket heatsink on your CPU. along with some case fans.

Thanks Edge ! My case deal fell thru .. Buy.com raised the shipping from $18 to $40 the day that I was to order it, so the build is on hold another two weeks. I'm also in the process of building a similar rig for a friend of mine whos coming over Monday to order some parts. Its ticking me off that its taking so long, but I have no choice if I really want the parts that I have settled on.

Is anyone using the pcalert program to check their temps? pc-alert and sandra lite tell me im idle 32c load about 42c. but core temp and speed fan say im idle 40 load about 52-54. I think I believe speed fan more just wondering if you guys had heard anything about programs reporting the wrong temps.

Basicly, it is all in order. Lets say that you have some RAm with 5-5-5-15 timings. You would put 5 on the first three blanks and 15 on the fourth. I actually looked up what all the letters mean and found that they are in order with this mobo.

My pc is C2D E6420, Mobo P6n SLI-FI with the Bios V2.1 and Ram 2x1024 Corsair XMS2 Cas 4

I have an OC to 3.1Ghz , when i try 3.2Ghz, windows freeze or ORTHOS to the 10 minutes. My board isnt SLI Platinum, its P6N SLI-FI, i'm trying this:

BIOS SETTINGS:
CPU Feature
- execute bit support "enabled"
- set limit cpuid maxval to 3 "disabled"
- C1E support "disabled" (f4 to pull out this menu)

Chipset Feature
- HPET "enabled"

Cell Menu
- DOT control "disabled"
- Intel EIST "disabled"
- System clock mode "manual"

Spread Spectrum Config
- PCIE spread spectrum "disabled"
- CPU/LDT Spread Spectrum "disabled"
- SATA Spread Spectrum "disabled"

And the voltages are: (attach SS)

http://img230.imageshack.us/my.php?image=biosyd4.jpg

If anybody knows what can i do to stabilize the OC to 3.2Ghz, I thank for the aid to me.

(Sorry for my English)

you have your FSB set to 1550 which 1550/4=387.5 ... im guessin it doesn't like that .5. just up it to 388x4=1552.

also its been noted that sometimes there is a hole in the fsb from 375-400 or 425.. forgot which.

why don't you try 1600fsb ..ram at 800... this gives you 3.2ghz and 1:1 800mhz ram. try it out.

else, go with 1500fsb which will be 375x4 .... giving you 3.0ghz with a 750mhz ram. that sounds pretty nice and will be stable.

try getting rid of that 0.5 first.. then if that doesnt work you prolly hit that FSB hole. hope you have good cooling on it. will be unstable without.

I have stable 100% as well as this 1550-775, but when I put 1600-800 to him is congealed the Windows, I also apply but voltages to him to the Vcore and to the SB, but it is congealed.

Love this board (Platinum, 1.22 BIOS). 100% stable at 1333MHz, no voltage increases except on the processor.
Actually dropped my RAM to 1.9v at 667MHz 1T (same bandwidth as 800MHz 2T but running cooler and 1:1 ratio).

Looking to see what the v1.24 BIOS will offer as far as any chance to run 800MHz at 1T.

hey adsmith82 you said you did a bios update with a beta version? i have the same problem as you. not being able to use all 4 chips, can you give me a link where you downloaded this bios update?

the important question is, i have the p6n sli-fi not the p6n sli platnium.

but my board come with a sli-fi sticker of the platnium logo. but its still a sli-fi.

will the bios update even work on mine?

Click on the BIOS tab on this page. The 'released' 2.1 BIOS fixes the 4gb memory problem (the problem with the system running extremely slow with 4 sticks inserted).
