I would like some input on the quality of MSI products produced recently. A few years ago all the MSI hardware my friends purchased showed some defects. A friend that worked in retail selling various computer hardware stated that MSI were one of the most frequently returned products. My brothers nforce2 MSI board is now giving us alot of hell too. I have a great distrust for MSI products.

I checked no and then remembered I had a ti4400 die. I rma'ed it and they sent me a full retial ti4600.

I would buy from msi again. Ive only had one card die out of like 5. Thats a better track record than Ive had with asus video cards.

I've used MSI way back to the Irongate AMD days. None of the boards ever gave me trouble. The BIOS options usually weren't the greatest though and for that reason I will try ABIT next time. I have also owned 2 Gigabyte boards which are rock solid but suck for overclocking.

I had two of their kt133 boards die.
It seemed to be something with the cpu voltage regulator.

I've used a ton of MSI products, and my general opinion is they are 100% rock solid if NOT PUSHED. When you start pushing them, unless you've done your research your asking for some trouble. As for the return rate, my gut suspicion is that most people who buy MSI buy them to push them, since they are generally the cheapest boards in a feature class with a big name. People who intent to run stock generally go with the cheapest board in a feature class reguardless of name. Big difference.

I have a K7T Turbo limited edition STILL in service in my house. it's paired with an Athlon 1.33 and 256MB of Crucial RAM now.

easily one of the most stable systems I've ever had here in the house... it's fantastic!

I work for the technology dept at a school district and all our new computers have MSI boards (Neo 2 w/ 865PE chipset to be exact).

They are good boards, but for some reason, we have a TON of problems with the ide ports on the boards. The cd-rom stops recognizing cd's and it gives ide errors in event viewer. We wind up having to replace the cd-rom drive and motherboard every time.

In MSI's defense, I don't know if the cd-roms are causing the boards to go bad (unlikely) or some other problem, but I replace the board on probably 1 out of 20 new systems we deploy.

I have one MSI motherboard (K7T266 Pro2-RU) and one MSI video card (GF4 Ti 4800SE) in service now in my home and neither one gives any problems. They are both nowhere near being new either. The video card is highly overclocked, too.

The only mobos I've used in my own machines for the last two years or so have been MSI and I have no complaints whatsoever. But I don't try to push them very hard. The most I've OCed is 10% on the FSB. If you OC on ANY mobo, then the consequences are ON YOUR HEAD not the mobo mfr's...
. I would say that most problems with MSI mobos can be blamed on clueless purchasers. Totally NO CONCEPT whatsoever!

Agreed, my MSI K8t Neo-FISR2 board sucks, period. Whether I got a lemon or not, I couldn't tell you, but after the experience I have had with their Tech Support and this board I won't be buying MSI again for a long time.

I've used 6 MSI mobos with no OCing, 2 or 3 video cards and some CDs, CDRWs and DVDs. I had 2 of the 6 mobos go bad (KT133 & SIS745), no prob with video cards, ROM drives are kind of noisy and not very fast, but they are working so far.... I give them about a C+.

Had a couple of MSI i845E motherboards in a number of user's systems and a good majority have been replaced due to all of them having a certain degree of those defective exploding caps.

This was over the course of two years so I can't comment on their current quality.

Face it, all MFG's produce products that are faulty or develop problems over time. I've been working in this industry for many years, and MSI is a reputable company that offers a fine product.

The KT133a boards were horrible about developing leaking capacitors.
