I need some help....I've been out of the loop for a bit on video cards. I'm currently running a eVga 8600 GT and I think its going on the blink (its either my card or monitor and I'm leaning toward the card). I'd like to spend under $200 for a card...whats the best bang for my buck out there right now.

Yeah it is definitely time to part ways with that athlon x2

I made a very similar switch a year ago - I was on a 4400+ w/DDR1 and AGP video.

Tempted to buy this over my 4850. Is it worth it? 1 more question. Is that the card in the ZZF picture? Or is it the one on newegg?

Both. Look at the T2D1G on MSI's website and they have pictures of both the reference card and their non-reference model under that product number. Odds are the Newegg pic is what you'll get regardless.

And for the price, it's $49 more than the cheapest 4850, with better guaranteed performance. You make the call.

The price just got jacked up. Now it's $227 after the rebate ($252 before). So much for price cuts...

Now I'm left wondering whether it's worth waiting for a better deal on a 4870 1 GB to come along or if I should just say F it and get the 512 MB version. Plenty of deals on that one (the ASUS in particular).

I would personally wait for 1GB card if you plan on doing some serious gaming. It's going to be a little bit more future proof. Also if you plan on playing GTA4 on PC, textures on high quality in that game already max out 1GB cards.

Nah, I already have it for my 360, but I agree. I'd rather just wait for another deal on the 1 GB version. No rush.

ON a 20 inch screen, the 1GB makes absolutely no difference over the 512.

That would be completely game specific. If a game doesn't use more than 512 megs of textures then they will both look identical. But if a game uses close to 1 gig of textures you will have to cut texture quality conciderably to make it fit 512 meg model. Then you will see the difference.
