MSI TF3 7950 OC Temps @ Stock?

I just bought a TF3 7950 factory OC at 880/1250. When I installed the card, I decided it would be a good time to clear out my fans and filters on my Storm Sniper case. I even placed an additional fan where the HD rack is as I only have one HDD.

I play on a single monitor at 1920x1080. Ambient Temp is 25.6 °C.

It replaced a MSI Hawk 460 GTX SLI Stock setup. My temperatures with the older setup:
Idle (GPU1 = PCIe slot closest to the CPU)
GPU1: 42 °C
GPU2: 33 °C
Load (Looping Frost Beach 50x on Max)
GPU1: 72 °C
GPU2: 53 °C

My readings now with a single 7950
Idle
GPU1: 38 - 43 °C
Load (Looping Frost Beach 50x on Max)
GPU1: 74 °C

What will be my load temp in mind when I go ahead and OC the card?

With those ambients that's about right I think.

You should be able to OC it pretty far on stock voltage. My TF3 card is at 1100MHz on stock voltage. Mine is watercooled though so my temps would be meaningless to you (55C load at 25C ambient in case you ARE interested).

Someone gave me advice to try overclocking the card and run a loop and see how it does.

I used AMD CCC to bring it up to 1000/1575 and ran a loop of Heaven for one hour. It peaked at 74 degrees Celsius.

Those temperatures look fairly normal. 74*C at 1000mhz, depending on the the GPU voltage and fan speed is reasonable. HD7950 chip is much larger in size than a GTX460. It shouldn't run cooler than a 460 HAWK. Worrying temperatures are 95-100*C, not 74-75*C.

How is your case airflow? Ideally you want a fan up top as an exhaust, with at least one at the bottom/front as an intake. I probably don't have to tell you that though

The TF3 is a great cooler, but it will also heat up due to the VRM/VRAM heat coming off the unisink covering the IC's. My TF3 6950 would load between 65 and 75 Celsius with ambient between ~27-33 Celsius.

H60 for the CPU
200mm Fans on the Top/Side/Front
120mm Low RPM Fan in the HD Cage pulling air to the front and pushing it to the side.

I heard from owners of the card telling me to expect 60-65 Celsius at the stock settings of 880/1250, but I was getting 71-74 Celsius. However, now that I overclocked to 1000/1575 at stock voltage, I still get the same peaks.

I guess its all good now.

I'm not sure how long you've had the card but it sometimes takes a day or two for the tim to set.

No worries. I noticed if you are staying within 7970 stock voltage limits. The card doesnt heat up much more than at stock speeds. @1100 core my highest temp was 72c.
