i have done my homework and a ton of researching and really think one of these boards will be perfect but dont know which one

these msi boards are so damn confusing

the pro is better then the pro2 which just doesnt make sense and then theres a turbo, turbo 2,turbo r, turbo 2 limited

well i noticed the turbo 2 is the newer version
and i also found that you can get a turbo limited-r "r standing for raid"

the limited has nicer features and costs alot more
but the turbo 2 has the new athlon suport to 1.7 ghz

i think im gonna go with the limited since i like all the features and am only running a duron

i would still like some more imput on this and maybe some other boards to look for in the same price range with the same features

thanks

Both boards support XP.

Turbo 2 does the XP2000+

Not sure of the limited.

the MSI turbo2 is a sweet board....I built a budget system with a gf2 MX200, seagate 40G, a Duron 950, using onboard sound and a generic 300w psu...the thing runs smoothly with no problems, no locking up, constant win2k performance over days and days of continuous use and playing of CS.

thats what im going for is a budget system until i can afford my p4 2.2 northwood

right now i run a celeron 667 @ 1 Ghz
on an ECS p6vap-a+

here are some more system specs if anyone is interested

40 Gb seagate ata100 HD
Thermosonic Thermoengine w/ spacer and 80mm 80 cfm Delta
northbridge chipset cooler
Kyro II video carb with blorb
256 mb low density cas 2 pc150 sdram
300 watt psu
32x12x40 Lite On burner
56x agi sony solution cd-rom
9 80mm case fans w/voltage control

i want a board that will be stable as an intel proc but with more speed
amd procs have stability issues when overclocked so i went for a nice stable board rather then a top performer
hence the msi limited

i want a board that can run the 266 mhz fsb and still use the old sdram
im not ready to buy ddr just yet
i know its faster but this is a budget project and will probably go to my g/f when i get my p4

this is wht i plan to buy and hop to get out of it

amd duron 1.3 ghz
Msi Turbo Limited
450 or 400 watt psu
THERMALRIGHT AX - 7 w/80mm fan "not sure of which fan yet but it wont be that noisy delta"
probably a Mechatronics F8025X 53 CFM @ 39 dBA 4200 RPM

looking to get around 1.5 ghz out of the duron

so far it looks like i will be spending around

hs $25.99
hs fan $11.99
s&h $8.50
total = $46.48

New oem Duron 1.3 ghz $54.00
free shipping

Msi Turbo Limited $50.00
s&h $12.95
total = $62.95

Standard parts total $163.43

All-in-One 400Watts Aluminum PSU $10.00
s&h $12.50
total $22.50

GRAND TOTAL $185.93

that doesnt even cover the costs of the p4 i want

I think you'd be foolish to spend extra money on the Limited version. The "regular" Turbo2 is an excellent board that does not lack in any features that you will be needing. It is also a rock solid board with smooth as silk setup. If you want a good reliable system and also save some money for a future move to ismell, then you could start by saving yourself some money here.
I built a "budget" system for my wife with the Turbo2 (revision 5) and it hasn't even burped in 4 months of 24/7 usage with XP Pro. I mean NO problems.
I am not saying that the Limited board will be any different or not work well. I am just trying to point out that the Turbo2 will do all you want and then some at a better price. In the end it is your money and your choice.

Had a turbo raid board that crapped on me. Rma'd it to msi and they sent me back a limited edition to replace it. The 3.3 bios adds xp 2000+ support for the board which i thought odd since msi specifically stated that 1800+ would be the highest it would support but there it is right on the LE bios page bios 3.3 added support for the 2000+. So i dropped a 2000+ in the board and it works like a charm. like being able to use my raid controller as a standard ata controller to.

The Turbo2 also added support for up to the XP 2000+, so that's a wash.

I had the MSI Turbo-R (MS6330) which I believe is the version just before the Turbo Limited Ed. These boards are just dying left right & centre after about a year or so. Hope the turbo2 is an improvement.

Mine is still alive and kicking after nearly a year of continuous (24/7) operation.
