MSI ultra2-R PC2700 XP2000+

i installed a machine last year with a MSI ultra2-R + XP 2000+. it's running with 512mb crucial pc2100. i'm thinking to upgrade to 1GB (2x512) Crucial PC2700. now i got a problem here: although this mobo support 166 fsb (kt333), the cpu's fsb is only 133. then there's no way to run the memory at 333mhz, right? how can i take advantage of PC2700? OC or replace the cpu??? many thanks!

You just have to set the memory bus speed higher in the BIOS.

If that board supports 333mghz bus cpus then it must also support 333mghz ram.

I have the EXACT same system you mentioned and I did not see how to get the FSB to 333 either. So I bought the new Asus deluxe w/ 2800 XP Barton (Still waiting for the parts to come in). I have had problems w/ the #3 mem slot on the mobo giving me BSOD. Other than that it has been a good board. I will check back if someone can tell me how to unlock the CPU to 333 FSB as it says it is only 266 FSB... I am pretty much a noob at all this stuff but know just enough to screw things up real good.....

thx. yeah, i know i can set the memory clock manually in the bios. Platoface, in our case, there's an option in the BIOS to let the user set RAM clock to HCLK+33 (HCLK: host clock, i.e., fsb). but i think speed won't gain much (someone says less than 5%) if we let CPU & RAM run asynchronously...

i believe many people who built their rigs last year have the same situation 'coz the price for a XP2600+ or above (those have 166m fsb) is pretty high. any more comments on this??
