Btw: I hate Western Digital for their RMA. They got 3 years warranty and my 80gig JB had a headcrash or whatever after 2 years and 10 months, RMAd it and they sent me the dead hdd back saying that they found scratches on the surface -> improper use. Is it improper use when I carry a hdd around in my backpack? Hm, maybe for WD, but i say NO! I never signed something saying: for "in-computer-use" only..

Yeah, that would be your own fault. Don't carry bare hard drives in your backpack.

While I would never carry one around in a backpack, aren't they supposed to be safe up to a couple hundred Gs while not operating?

EDIT: Ouch, I'm sorry, I somehow missed the remaining pages of this.

I really wish it was an error on my part. I went to their forums just so that I could follow their procedures for testing the motherboard. I have been working with computers since jr high, building them, oc'ing them, net admin during college, and now I design nav systems. So sadly, in this case, it is for sure the motherboard. I was so hoping it was something else. PSU for example. But I was able to test the other components.

The RMA was placed on the 4th of May, and I personally dropped it off at MSI's west coast facility in hopes that I could rush the RMA and also save on shipping. It's the 1st of June. So it's almost been a month. If you count working days, it's beyond their stated turn around time.

Seems so weird though, to have it take so long. I'm not really sure what to do next time if this happens with another board, although this is the first time a motherboard has died on me. Be nice if they at least let me use another board or something. Paying a deposit for example is no problem.

This is so funny! I am tempted to put it in my sig. On a similar note, my POS dvds no longer work after just a few hours of frisbee, they shouldnt make them fly so easily if they dont support this use.

FYI ppl really need to get over this "I never signed anything" mentality, however valiant the effort, it doesnt hold up in court or even a good debate in the digital era.

You need to cross ship first of all so you don't have to worry about being out of service for more than a few days, then let ASUS, MSI whom ever to take there sweet time in getting your money back, not your mobo. I have had an excellent experiance in RMAing an A8N-SLI deluxe produced during a week in early production where bios problems surfaced after being flashed. Cross ship was a breeze.

Sounds like someone has been RMAing hard drives.

I must say that I'm not too pleased with the time it's taking MSI to resolve the Winchester overclock bug, when most other manufacturers have already taken care of it.

Like one previous poster said, great features, slow response to issues. I'd never want to sail in that boat again.

I understand the costs are an issue with this market, and I personally wouldn't mind paying a little extra for premium service when needed.

Technically speaking, DFI, from my experience, responded much quicker to issues that arose later down the road than MSI did or are still trying to.

I find it amusing that this whole thread took place and the OP never posted agian.

Would also like to add that if a computer is mission critical:

1. Buy a replacement guarantee at a local retailer so it can replace with no hassle.

2. Buy two motherboards or have two computers.

3. Asus, MSI, DFI, Epox are all pretty good companies that make decent motherboards. Only MSI and Asus have 3 year warranties, Epox has 2 year warranty and DFI has 1 year.

4. People today expect to overclock the crap out of their mobo and think nothing of the wear and tear it places on the parts.

5. Since Mobo cost only $60 to $120 you can't expect the quality control to be that great, it would be nice if a more expensive high end board were available for those who want to sleep better at night but their doesn't seem to be a market for that.

Imagine a mobo with the very best parts and heavily tested, it would probably cost a bit more then the $120 we pay today.

Those exist. Just buy a server/workstation board.
