MSI x1800xt 512mb $209!!!

its specs are identical to a 512mb x1800xt non-LITE which are still in the $300 range.

If in fact its because it doesnt come with bundled crap Im about to make a purchase.

If anyone else can tell me if there is anything "crippled" please let me know because I cant find it.

I haven't heard much about MSI video cards so dunno if I'd jump or not. I'm almost positive their "LITE" just means OEM so just the card w/out cables and cds.

i have this card. it is not crippled. it just doesn't have all the software that the regular version has. from what i've read, MSI uses ATI's reference design exactly(except for the grahpic on the heatsink) so it should not be any more prone to failing than any other x1800xt.

question... so is the heatsink pretty decent? my last MSI card heatsink (ti4400) looked sweet but performed like molten lava.

side question... any stable overclocks?

the stock cooler works pretty well but is NOISY. It is really high pitched and annoyingly whiney. I replaced my hs/f with one from arctic cooling. I have not tried to OC the board so I can't comment on that.

it gets warm but the fan auto adjusts to keep it cool. the heatsink is a beast though. as soon as you lift it out of the tray, you'll realize what i mean. the card is big and heavy. as for noise, i'm not sure that it's all that loud. i mean, i have some loud case fans i salvaged from an old computer and the only time i hear the video card fan over the loud case fans is when the system is first powered up.

as for overclocking, i haven't tried it. i primarily play BF2 and this card runs that game with everything at max, usually get around 100fps steadily. i feel no need to overclock it.

If MSI's naming convention is consistent, Lite is as everyone above says - a reference card minus extra bits. I have a MSI 7800gtx lite, and the MSI sticker came off the fan hub revealing an nVidia sticker.

Isn't the x1900gt better ? and you can get it for about the same (or even less on a hot deal)

the 1900xt is only a small clock bump, i think.

and the fan is noisy because it HAS to be. feel that air coming out the back? there's a lot of it. and it's pretty hot once you get gaming. you're gonna get some noise if you move that much air with a fan laterally. there's no way around it. an ati silencer is quiet, yes, but i'm willing to bet money that this moves nearly double the CFM.

There's a huge difference between the X1900XT and X1800XT. It's worth the extra money to get the X1900XT.

However, with the 1900GT there is no performance increase; some think it may be a driver issue.

The x1800xt (512mb) is by far better than the x1900gt (lower clock speeds and half the vid memory but double the frag pipes)... the x1900xt is in a class of its own.... well almost identical in structure with the exception that it has 32 extra frag pipelines.

Hope price stays same or goes lower cuz i get paid this at midnight tonight

I really like my X1900gt, they can be had for the same amount are only slightly slower in most games, but run slightly cooler, and it also supports sm 3.0
