MSI x99s SLI PLUS system wont power on

The Rosehill Capstone 1000w 80 plus gold PSU came with a big power pin to go into the motherboard plus a 2 x 4 pin that plugs in near the CPU. I plugged the big PSU plug into the mother board but am having a problem with the 2 x 4 pin plug.

If I do NOT plug in the 2 x 4 pin plug and then power on, the cooling system runs and even the DVD player runs a bit. If I DO plug in the 2 x 4 pin then power on, the motherboard LED's just blink for a second and then it all shuts down - no fans run or anything

What could be causing this?

Also the i7 5820k CPU would only plug in upside down into the motherboard. Is this right?

MSI GeForce 210 1GTB DDR3 (weak Graphics card, but shouldnt be a problem)

You need to have the 8pin (your 4+4) plugged in as well as the 24pin... You may need to plug in the extra 4 pin from a 4+4 as I have been informed that they have the 8pin+4pin configuration. You will NEED this to be plugged in to get the board working as it is required to fully power your board. Also - clear the cmos by pulling the battery for 5 min and shutting off the psu before trying too.

This has me puzzled. The many gold pads go down, to connect with the many pins in the socket that face up.

Yes, the CPU gets installed with the print upside-down.

there is a gold triangle on the CPU pcb and it will line up with a indented triangle on the socket - It shows you the orientation

Also if nothing else works try this, over night CMOS clear and re-seat the CPU and CPU cooler. Be careful with the CPU pins, it maybe so new it just needs to crush the pins one more time.
If that does not work, bare minimal to start with. One stick of ram, also make sure yer memory is on the mother board list. remove the board if need be from the case..
