I have an MSI D16 DVD-ROM drive and using their LiveUpdate software it detected that there was a firmware update available for it. I updated it and it completed successfully.
Upon restarting, the computer wouldn't boot even to POST. I tried BIOS settings but that wasn't it. When I disconnected the drive's IDE cable from the mainboard the computer booted!
I went to MSI's forums and someone had done the same thing with the same update and the same drive. He said it killed his drive too and no-body else should use it!
I complained to MSI and they said they would repair it but I have to pay a £10 postage charge for that to happen, over their own faulty firmware update.
Is there any way to repair the drive myself? It won't let the computer boot when connected. And if I connect it while Windows XP is running, the computer doesn't detect it even if I scan for new hardware.
