MSN and Offermanage

Just want to check, but has anyone else using MSN gotten a "www.offermanage.com" or something link when receiving a message?

Just today I managed to get two of these links from two different "contacts". The most peculiar one was from someone I haven't talked to in years. Is something up?

Forgot to add, this was on 2 different computers and my machine just got the scanner updated yesterday.

Referencing mechBgon's security guide, try this site https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 and click on the "Messenger spam" link. Test out if you receive the messages. You may need to alter your port settings

@ Chronoshock - you're getting the service Messenger confused with MSN Messenger.

@ Imp - I think it's unlikely that you have an infection spread by MSN Messenger. First of all, you would have had to received one of those messages and had to have clicked the link contained in the message. After that, you would know that you were infected because of the symptoms you'd have after the crap finished downloading on your computer.

It sounds like someone or some people that you know have been infected and MSN is spitting out msgs to people on their lists. FWIW, the link you mentioned is located in the Netherlands.

Try doing an online scanner. Use IE because of the ActiveX.

1. Read the Requirements and Privacy statement, then select "Accept"
2. A dialogue box will appearing asking "Do you want to install this software?" Name: kavwebscan_unicode.cab
3. Select "Install" to download the ActiveX controls that allows ActiveScan to run.
4. If running MSAS beta you may receive an alert that an IE ActiveX program requires your approval. Click "Allow"
5. When the download is complete it will say ready, click "Next"
6. Select a target to scan: Click on "My Computer"
7. When the scan is complete choose to save the results as "Save as Text"
