Now because everybody likes to go do what they are told not to... I'll explain it first.

This website is exploiting the hole in MSN messenger and is copying all your contacts and sending them this messege:

URGENT - Go to htt.p://us.ers.sk.yn.et.be/da.rk.an.gel/co.ol.htm
(I have periodically placed dots in the link so that YOU DO NOT CLICK IT! But if you see this messege, then DO NOT CLICK IT!

EVERYBODY on their contact list gets this. THIS IS A VIRUS.

A virus is ANYTHING that replicates itself, maliciously OR NOT!

If any malicious intent was to occur by the time you loaded the page it would be done. This hole gives a correctly coded webpage COMPLETE CONTROL OVER YOUR MSN ACCOUNT.

DO NOT CLICK THIS LINK! YOU CAN EXPOSE YOURSELF TO A POTENTIALLY DEADLY VIRUS!

One change in the code and everybody who ever clicks that link could have serious harm doen to them... possibly their account password being changed and nobody able to access their accounts. This hole allows the webpage COMPLETE CONTROL over your MSN(.net) account. It could chnage your hotmail password too (they are the same password)

Please if you have any way of spreading this messege PLEASE! Other forums ANYTHING!

the risk of this is incredibly LOW since you would have to have your email addy as your display name and I know of no one who uses or would use their email as their display name. Even if by some miracle you have your addy as your display name you would have to visit a website that contains this code.

I think that is wrong as I clicked on a similar link, and the same happened to me, it is not a virus in any shape nor form, it is just merely a vulnerability associated with Windows Messenger and Internet Explorer.

If you'd like more information about it please check out this link: http://tom.me.uk/msn/. MSN has now been patched to v4.60076

AMB... a virus is considered anything that replicates itself. This this replicates itself, therefore it is a virus... wether it causes damage or not.

Thanks for th link.

Type: Virus
A program or code that replicates, that is infects another program, boot sector, partition sector or document that supports macros by inserting itself or attaching itself to that medium. Most viruses just replicate, a lot also do damage.

It doesn?t infect anything ... it doesn?t attach itself to any type of media permanently it just uses a loophole to send text to your online contacts, I can't see how it is possibly classified as a virus.
