On the other hand he probably hasn't seen real life vagina since he came out of one.... I'll take years and years of vagina over the chance of coming upon some rare MTG card any day but that's just me.

he might be able to sell that thing for $100k or so and buy a substantial quantity of vagina experiences, though.

So a company invents a card game, prints a 1000 all-too-powerful cards and now they're somehow worth 30k each? Fools and their money...

The original packaging for the MTG cards were white and kind of see through. I used this trick to find rare cards that I wanted to buy until the shop owners found out what people were doing. Most likely the person already knew what was in the pack befor opening.

Does anyone actually have proof these cards are selling for 30k? There is a HuGE difference in a listing for 30k, and the actual sales price. Nerds want it to be worth huge money, but let's be honest, it's not worth it and it's a very limited market. I'll believe the 30k-100k Bullshit when you can show me several sales in that range. I mean there are 1000 printed, so there has to be a few sales? Otherwise, it's BS pipe dreams and hype.

Man I miss that game. I think I still have an unopened 4th edition booster with my old cards, assuming they haven't all been placed in the garbage. Maybe there's an Alpha Black Lotus in that.

ebay completed listings can be searched, and it would appear this card will sell somewhere around $7-9k. Seems people are reprinting these cards and calling them proxies. I'm sure as more reprints are made each year, the sale price of originals have been dropping significantly. There is also sharp uptick in sale price the closer a card is to a perfect 10 rating. Like baseball cards, a card graded as an 8 is valued basically the same as an ungraded card, a 9 isn't much more. But get a 9.5 grading, perhaps triple the price, a 10 grading triple the 9.5 graded card.

If I recall when I played mtg the border alignment also was a factor in grading so if your border was off a bit because of printing issue it can drop it down to a 9 the moment you open it so who knows but then again such old cards like this are usually unusable in 99.9% of the tournaments anymore.

Geezus, I just fucking linked to a legit auction result where it went for $45k documented, basically the same card/grading, and do the legwork on eBay yourself to see other sales but you MUST include the phrase "Alpha" when you search because that's what makes the card 3x more valuable then the more common white-bordered Lotus. Call collectors nerds all you want and most are but at least understand when you get to the most valuable cards no one cares the market is limited, old MTG cards in general keep going up in value regardless, I don't understand it but they are.

I was big into games like Dungeons and Dragons growing up. Didn't dress up, but went to local conventions, toured the Ral Partha plant in Cincinnati. But I have never understood the appeal of the card games. I get this, it's an out of print card. But the game itself, nope.

When I click "Sold Listings" the first one is $7,281.71 the next is $32.51.

$7,000 seems right, but this is an alpha in great condition. Its more of an excitement factor in that there simply are not many unopened alpha packs left and this is just a crazy rare card anyways.

Make fun of MTG but it has absolutely held up over time. I get back into it and play a little bit from time to time.

I play T1 with my actual power nine, but I don't own any Alpha.

I traded my dual lands for 5-10 dollars each. Sigh...

Now my most expensive card is a playset of Force of Will. Which are massively used since I played with my decks unsleeved all the time. Plus Mirage had a bad resin that got on all the cards over time.

That was my most expensive card when i sold all mine to an online store. I had 3 of them and they gave me $55 each i believe. Then like 2 weeks later they jumped to buying them for $80 each. Oh well lol

As far as I know not a single alpha black lotus has ever been sold at these ridiculous prices.

http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/...l/329287-bgs-10-beta-black-lotus-100k-on-ebay

Forum post from 2012 - Ebay listing still active 3+ years later http://www.ebay.com/itm/MTG-MAGICTH...LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4840ee5295&_uhb=1

It's more a token acknowledgement to the rarity and condition, but not an actual market price. I would think the clearing price for these - in 9.5 or 10 condition is probably closer to $750.

Yup, it's a good game. I used to play it heavily in high school. Don't play it much anymore, but it's still fun to grab some boosters and play a draft with friends every now and again.

I miss the idea of playing this game but that's more a reflection of my feeling towards that time of my life in general. Late HS / early college. (mid 90s)

Some of us made a lot of money on that game. Specifically making some correct guesses when it came to what was being brought back in the Chronicles set and what was being removed from 3rd edition. Let's just say I traded a number of original set Legends for a ton of dual lands. Once Chronicles came out the value of the Legends plummeted. The Dual lands were removed from the main set with 4th edition and their value sky rocketed. I was selling sets of duals for $400 a pop on IRC.

Just went back and looked at the old Arabian Nights set. So many great cards there. Haven't seen those in years... Nostalgia!

http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/S...visual&action=advanced&set=["Arabian+Nights"]

But since this is about the Black Lotus...

Why is the Black Lotus banned? Why were some other cards banned?

Any Land + Black Lotus + Juzam Djinn on first turn basically says it all.
