Looking for some decent multiplayer action in an fps. Played wow up until last year then moved on to some single player games. Now I find myself returning to day of defeat source for some multiplayer fun. But that game is getting a little tired as I have been playing off and on since release. What's everyone playing these days for multiplayer? I have a core i5, 6870, 8 gig ram, and only a 720 p display.

TF2, L4D2, CSS and BF3 are probably the major players on PC, not sure how active CoD is on the PC or if you can play cross platform so that could be hit or miss.

Edit: Owned, I am now OP!

TF2 is the only modern FPS I'll play at the moment. I've never been the biggest FPS fan though.

I play L4D2 and the old and free wolfenstien enemy territory. WET is old and graphics aren't great but it is still fun.

Almost forgot. I play Killing Floor as well. Fun little CS style zombie survival. It's Coop only though, and while it seems to get steady updates it definitely feels a little outdated.

It depends on what you are looking for. L4D(2) and Borderlands are co-op and better to play with people you actually know in real life IMO. L4D kinda sucks solo, but Borderlands is actually not bad as a single player game as well.

BF3 and CoD are both fun, and both have leveling and gear so they will probably satisfy the WoW player in you. BF3 has larger maps, vehicles, and requires some level of team work to be successful. CoD is faster paced and more accessible to new players.

With CoD you might want to try to find some player impressions of how well MW3 plays on PC. MW3 doesn't have the option to use dedicated servers, and with MW2 this sometimes caused lag/stutter issues on PC. I opted to get MW3 for Xbox this time around because of this. If there is still a large number of people playing Black Ops this might be a better option because there are dedicated servers and a server browser, which is probably more what you're used to.

I actually have a level 58 Hunter in borderlands and I love it but I was looking for competitive not coop. I own mw2 not digging it really. No dedicated servers is garbage. maybe black ops will be better. How's the multiplayer in Serious Sam 3, is there any community at all? I also have a beta invite for tribes ascend but havent installed it yet how's that going? I am a big fan of pre vengeance tribes.

I occasionally have fun screwing around in Nexuiz for raw deathmatch.
It's not new or modern, graphics are about as good as Quake 3 era, but it's awesome fun Arcade style FPS deathmatch combat. Something that's been lacking from the FPS genre for a long time IMO.

You could try Alliance of Valiant Arms. It's free on steam. It's owned by Ijji (Aeria Games is taking it over though). So, it's microtransaction but you can be really good without buying anything. I have over a 2.5:1 score/death ratio and I don't pay for anything.

I'm going against the grain here:

ArmA II. More specifically, Operation Arrowhead. If you're looking for a super realistic, truly open world military sim, it's simply unmatched. It's got some pretty big AI flaws in unmodded form, but there are countless mods, maps, and user creations that make it into almost a new game. No other game gives you half as much freedom as it does. Period.

With a friend or two, or a good server of everyone playing seriously, it's one of the most engaging experiences out there. So much deeper and more rewarding than the typical "run n' gun" military shooter.

Looked into Arma and it sounds a little daunting but im gonna dl the demo off steam. Anyone ever play homefront? cool looking trailer for that one.

i do have played many first person shooter in multiplayer mode but i recommend counter strike 1.6, if you compare with today's games you may find graphic and sound average, in short less realism. but the gameplay is unmatchable.

I actually have quake III installed but do people honestly still play urban terror?? My mod was true combat fo q3, loved it.

It no longer needs Q3 and you can still find plenty of servers to play on in CTF, TDM, and TS as well as a bunch of mods like freeze tag and various zombie mods. Not to mention that there are still leagues for CTF and TS going on if you're looking for competition.

My wife and I have been having a ton of fun playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Really enjoyed the class unlock progression. The only negative that is coming to mind right now is "base raping". If the server allowed it, on many of the maps I played, getting pinned at your base could easily happen if your playing against a very good team. That aspect got old quick.

If you are patient, you can pick up Bad Company 2 for a song. We got it during the holiday sales for $6.
