Carlie Hebdo, January of this year.

At a rate of 2x per year... yeah it's really terrible but this last one was pretty extreme. Over 100 dead, highly coordinated attacks, using machine guns, grenades, etc.

There were actually three this year. But the last two before that were in 2007 and 1996 respectively.

And that's all well and dandy if the next one isn't til 2020, but if the rate year over year continues to rise, then we can't ignore that it's a growing concern, whether if it's in our own country or not.

who is ignoring the problem? the US military has carried out over 6,300 airstrikes against ISIS in the past 15 months.

it is a little ironic that you forgot, or didn't know about, the attack in Kenya this spring that killed 147 people, more than the total in Paris.

Yup, I did actually see that in the news the day after and found it concerning that it's not a top headline. Then again the media wants to report things that we will find more entertaining. As crappy and racist as it sounds, the US will eat up the killing of 129 Europeans much more than 147 Africans.

I know we've done a lot but are they really getting weaker? I don't know, I'm asking. If they aren't then you gotta ask yourself whether that's the right approach, etc.

unfortunately, i am quite familiar with the average Americans apathy towards Africa.

i don't think there is a "right" approach. imo, the best approach is using our top intelligence and technology to fight ISIS. we aren't fighting a country here, but an ideal spread out over many nations. no matter what we do, it is impossible to prevent some of these tragedies from occurring.

Saw some alleged cell phone pics of the theatre after the massacre. Just a mind boggling scene, and I can't imagine having been there during or after those events.

I'm really not in support of war in the middle east, but if these attacks keep occurring I feel like there really might not be much choice left but to really take it to them. I'm just waiting for a Paris like attack to happen here. All the war hawks will call for blood, and whoever is president will almost have no choice but to react. Basically 9/11 all over again.

Take it to them? lol. They are going to take it to us first (like Boston Marathon). Check out how many Syrian refugees we're about to import.

The best way to fight it is to limit muslim immigration here, because once they're here we cannot legally (unless DHS/FBI) publicly monitor mosques nor what is being taught there (e.g. their scripture which is centered around a violent prophet). The best offense is a good defense, and the less here = less mosques. Less mosques = less radicalization that can occur, e.g. like b0mber Mostefai who was radicalized in a Paris mosque (according to the mayor). Once they're in, they have the same rights as us and can travel wherever they want (like D.C. which they said is next on their hitlist). It's time for liberal politicians to wake up and start protecting the people that voted them in, not toeing some naïve open borders BS.

Better yet, look at the list of attacks by muslims globally from 2010-present:

It's a catch-22 at this point. We are too far in to stop bombing the shit out of them. If we stop, they have the chance to grow stronger and if we go even harder then we breed more hate toward us.

Unfortunately, I think the real answer to stop the violence is one I don't really want to say here. One, I'll get flamed for it, and two, I don't know if it came down to it if I'd be okay with our country doing it. However, clearly even dropping 6200+ bombs on Syria wasn't enough to stop the attacks not only in Paris but other parts of the world. Obviously, you can't stop them all, but if the rate goes up with the more firepower we put in... A different tactic is needed.

Our aggression led to the rise of terrorist groups. Given our architecture of aggression leads to the terrorist groups, then we may be well served by revisiting our interventions and and undermining attempts into other countries.

That our architecture of aggression was effectively labeled "spreading democracy" by the propaganda artists,.... and that the lies took hold, may be an indication that the worst is yet to come.

Hannover, Germany soccer stadium just evacuated due to an almost certain bomb threat. Looks like we're going to be getting an influx of Germans, French, Britons, Spaniards and Swedes in the near future. I had planned a trip to Paris last year but not going anytime soon until they're under martial law. Looks like the Israelis were onto something after all (from a security standpoint).

Was watching CNN, think it was Erin Burnett who asked a really good question: how is it that after 8000-ish bombs later, there are still so many targets that France can "blitz" so many new targets in a few days? It's a rhetorical question...

I like how they left out all the people that got killed by islamic militants in some other countries, or boko haram, or isis when they moved down towns and cities... 171 is what some of them killed before breakfast on certain days...

No, it's 171 attacks/acts of terror that killed people, not the total number of people killed. I didn't bother to add up the bodycount - yeah it's in the tens of thousands.

Either there's thousands more targets, or the ones we targeted did not get properly dispatched.

I understand at this point, the war is much different that decades ago. In WW2, we faught a large, visible army, spear headed by a crazy dictator. Now, it's small groups of religious fanatics who hide in plain sight amongst innocent civilians.

But the fact is, the longer things like this go on, the more young innocent kids slowly turn into terrorists. I'm just hoping that nothing like Paris ever happens here. It means the virtual end of all our liberties and freedoms, in the name of "security".

Something like Paris will happen on US soil I'm sure, given how lax we've been about the whole thing.

uhhhhh, have you already forgotten about 9/11? it was far worse than the attacks in Paris.

and again, the US has launched over 6,300 airstrikes against ISIS, how exactly is that being "lax"?

Until there are boots on the ground, the approach is lax. Sorry, it's just the way it is.

yeah, that's worked real well recently, boots on the ground is exactly what created ISIS. as stated before, ISIS isn't a nation you can invade. intelligent warfare is the way of the future, not boots on the ground for slaughter. sorry, that's just the way it is.

i was watching a special last night on ISIS (first 10 minutes, then dvr'd the rest) and they were saying that it is ISIS' dream come true the day american solders set foot over there. that is like their wet dream, to face american solders on the ground.

This.

I do travel outside the US and back a lot and the amount of liberty we gave up and level of big brother watching before 9/11 and after are astounding. For example: TSA, NSA snooping, borderline molesting at the airports, whole body xray, Patriot Act, asset seizure because of money laundering for profit or for terrorist allegation, big banks turn you in to the big government just because how you run your business, and so much more, just in the name of "for your own safety/keep the public safe from the big bad terrorists".

ISIS filled the void left by those boots leaving -- all at the same time.

And they or someone just like them will do the same the next time we declare mission accomplished and go home. Is it really worth it to feed our people into the grinder forever so some shitty nation is slightly more stable? I'm going with no, let them work out their own problems (or not) and if they try to bring trouble across their borders to our friends then we'll deal with them.

Look, I wear those boots they're talking about and here's my take.

ISIS needs to be starved to death. They feed themselves with propaganda and money. They swell their ranks through social media.

Boots on the ground will only elevate their position in the world and attract more of their type. Plus, they're killing more Muslims than they are anyone else.

I firmly believe our Commander in Chief has purposely delayed broader action to try to draw in others around globe. It seems to be working. Sadly though our "allies" in the region that purchase billions of dollars annually in some of the latest military hardware are content to sit inside their borders and let others do their dirty work. Yes, I'm looking at you Saudi Arabia, Qatar, etc...
