Multiplier drops under stress test

This has been happening since I got my computer (1 month). My i52500k is "stable"(only 2 hours of stress test) @4.7GHz and 1.384vcore. My tems are so far good, high peaks at 68, it doesnt go above that with the cooler master hyper 212.
The thing is that after 20 minutes in prime 95 my multiplier drops from 47 to 33 and voltage also changes. This makes sudden temp changes also since the three are directly proportional from 68 to like 54 when it goes back to 33. I dont know why this. I have Asus p8p67 LE mobo, right, it is not the pro but I dont see why cpu beaves like this. C1 C1E are off. LLC on. EIST on. Any thoughts?

this happens to my DP67DE

increase your current and TDP limits... Believe the default/"safe intel default" values are 115W for the TDP, dont remember what for the current

I'd say 150W is safe for a short-term stress test with adequate air flow and mobo mosfet cooling / 6 phase circuit...

What does it mean?

in the BIOS... go to the settings, probably the same tab where you changed your Turbo Multiplier for OCing

Here is the OC tab for my DP67DE.

Change the equivalent settings for "TDC Current Limit Override (amps)", "Burst Mode Power Limits (Watts)", "Sustained Mode Power Limits (Watts)", "IGD Current Limit (amps)"...

basically anything with "(WATTS)" most likely deals with TDP, anything with amps = current. Increase all those values

I had an issue on a 2600k where two threads of prime95 would start off at the expected 25% cpu usage. Then after a while one of the threads would just stop executing and cpu usage would drop to 13%. Prime95 would show as running normally. It had no idea only one thread was running at a time.

The cause ended up being one of the motherboard utilities that came with the driver disc. So as a general troubleshooting practice I recommend going into task manager and finding and killing those asus-related processes. Just go through your list of running processes and google any process that could possibly be a motherboard utility.

this is probably what it is, your CPU is hitting TDP limit. the normal limit should be 95W I believe for Sandy Bridge.

Go into your BIOS, to AI Tweaker, and under DIGI+ VRM, and change CPU Current Capability. Its probably at 100% right now, meaning once your CPU hits its limit of 95W power draw, it will be throttled and multiplier dropped to not exceed that limit. I leave mine at 140%, and that just means my board will allow the CPU to take the power it needs.

Just make sure you have decent cooling, once you remove that limit you can easily hit 90's with the right combination of voltage and overclock

Problem is in my BIOS I cant find anything with 100% value. I can only set TDP when I enable EIST, long duration set to 120w 32 seconds and short duration 130w. Now running prime 95.
I have a p8p67LE, there is no tab to adjust Vcore manually, I only can play with offset values. This mobo is kinda different

keeps throttling, temps in high 60s drop to mid 50s when frequency drops. This is annoying, Im afraid this constant temps and frequency changes end up screwing my cpu.

I'll check on the LE settings in a bit when I get home. Also, try google.

In the meantime, constant frequency and temp changes won't hurt your CPU at all, most of us have some type of power savings so clock and voltage is constantly fluctuating. No worries.

I have been so far thru a lot of things now. First I noticed during the stress test that cpuid hardware monitor was telling me that the maximum power the cpu got was 96.5W. This processor has the TDP maximum of 95w. So whenever it hit the 95w barrier it clocked down immediately, that explained why the throttling.
I had updated the bios an hour before since I was getting some BSOD. BIOS crashed when I restarted the computer. Windows didnt boot at all and I couldnt enter the BIOS or it ended freezed. I had to wipe the CMOS by pulling off the lithium battery and putting it in again. Of course at boot I had to play with the bios settings again, from date and time to multiplier values. But issue continues, CPU throttles down after a few minutes in prime95, this time I noticed after it passed the 91W barrier. I dont know how to change those TDP values in the BIOS for now, I'll keep looking any other inputs will be appreciated

Yea, your max power topped off at 96.5W because that's all your board can give it, then it throttled.

What version of BIOS are you running? Latest is 1104.

I did some googling, it sounds like the LE version of that board has some of the overclocking/voltage options stripped out, which makes sense because LE would be considered the entry level of the line. That may be the issue and if it is, there isn't a workaround, other than lowering your overclock.

Stop stress testing it and you won't have these issues. If the temps are ok under normal load, you're probably fine.

Thank you guys. Indeed I installed the 1104 version yesterday, then the crash I mentioned before happened, I think disabling EIST was the cause.

Everything is running normal now. I refuse to make any further stress testing cuz I know what the results would be, I just didnt want my cpu throttling when gaming or doing stuff so I checked it by installing a second monitor and dragging there CPUID, taskmanager and HWMonitor. When gaming multiplier never dropped, I tried to load the cpu the most I could, pushing it to 80% of load, max wattage was 79, it never throttled. Satisfied so far
