yeah, my brother got some of this, initially in January. First time a stick was DOA. After an RMA to newegg, 2nd time around both sticks have all kind of errors in memtest386 and also showed as 3-4-4. Multiple newegg reviews appear to show similar problems. He finally RMA'd through Mushkin and got something that works. But all that RMA shipping adds up.

Makes me suspect Newegg knows they're sitting on a massive load of crap with this stuff and is happily trying to get rid of it to anyone who doesn't test their memory.

Most of the reviews on newegg are good...?

Has anyone else had bad experiences w/this ram? I thought Mushkin was a more reputable brand than Kingmax? I missed the ~$72 for kingmax, but this is still pretty tempting...

I didn't say most of the reviews were bad, just multiple ones. Look at the most recent ones, from the last 2 months. Notice that the bad comments are hidden in 4 and 5 star reviews there. Maybe people have discovered that Newegg won't delete your comments if you mask them with a high rating, heh heh. Also consider how many people probably don't test RAM if things actually "work", and may not know for a while that they're experiencing data corruption. There are also some threads on forums.mushkin.com with the same problems.

AFAIK, Mushkin has a good reputation, that's why I originally recommended them in the first place. And to their credit, Mushkin takes care of you when you deal directly with them. Maybe this is a very isolated incident on a single batch, I'm just relating what I've seen. There are enough other 1GB 3200 value RAM's from big name manufacturers @ $90 that I personally would go with one of them right now and forego the $10 MIR, YMMV.

That kingmax isn't very good. I had 1x512 of Geil value in a computer which was overclocked to 223mhz (2800+ 64). I put the kingmax in and i couldn't even get it to overclock at 210. I am now running the computer at stock speeds because of this ram. I will probably sell it on ebay and then buy some more ram. My brother has a stick of the muskin and it works very well for him but he is not going over 200mhz (Athlon XP) system.

So because value ram doesn't overclock well it is therefore bad?

I agree. If you're wanting to overclock, spend the necessary $$. Beggars cannot be choosers. Take your pick...cheap, stable RAM at posted speed or more expensive RAM that will enable you to overclock easier.

BTW - being unable to overclock 1 stick of RAM does not make the whole lot of RAM bad for overclocking, sheesh. I mean, no one here would *ever* make a blind leap of faith like that, would they?

Who cares about overclocking! I just want stable good quality memory and I've had this memory for several months with no problem. Mushkin backs up the warranty very nicely. GREAT company to deal with. This or the VS memory from Corsair, both are very good. This is a great price after rebate.

I have a pair I ordered a couple months ago at $130 when I thought it was a good deal
Works fine here, running at stock speeds.
BTW, newegg doesn't say the timings, but the timings per SPD are:
2.5 3 3 8
which is pretty good for the price. Many other value level ram has 3 4 4 10 or some such for near this price.
Pretty much the only better you could get would be 2 2 2 and in terms of actual performance increase its only a couple percent overall, while probably doubling your price.

I dont know about overclocking yet, I've been using it at stock so far. If you are going to seriously overclock though you need to be going with PC4000 or faster anyway.

I have been running a pair of these for well over a year now and have had absolutely no problems. Mine are CL 2.5 and work great! I am running them with my MB set at high performance settings. Good stable memory in my book.
