Figure they charge you less for DDR. 24x4=96. So why would this be a special. I have the KT7 Raid - Don't think that takes DDR. Tell me if I'm wrong.

You're not wrong. Neither that board or it's sister the KT7A will accept DDR ram.

Besides the fact that one is 512 and the other is 256, what about the chips themselves?

The 256mb is registered ECC, usually used by server class mobos, and won't work in your average run-of-the-mill-home mobo (should be perfect for the Gateway 6400 though ). Make sure you can use this ram.

also there is a 512M basic with IBM chips, is that good?
I have a KT7Araid, so I don't think there is a compatiblity problem. But how is the performance of this one?
