Mushkin vs. Crucial RAM

I'm maxing out the ram in my Dell XPS T600r Pentium III computer. I've heard Mushkin, Crucial and Kingston are the top 3. I've also heard when you buy Crucial, you don't always get Crucial memory and Kingston is using some off-brand chip?

Which brand is more reliable and worth buying?

Any of the major brands are fine. I personally like Mushkin as I have been using them for a few years now.

I have used crucial in the past its been very good, on my latest system Im gonna have kingston HyperX thanks to the good deal on it 175 for 1 gig of ram.

If you're not overclocking, or overclocking mildly, then go with Crucial memory. If you are overclocking to the max then go with Corsair XMS, Kingston HyperX, or the Mushkin high-end stuff.

That also depends, since I'm running Crucial 2100 at 2700 stable It seems that basically, the slower the Crucial, the more you can overclock it. So a Crucial 3200 stick probably wouldn't make it to 3700, but a 1600 stick could probably do 2100.

personally, i say name-brand for normal use, name-brand performance line for OCing. i've used crucial and kingston with good results, but reading around the forums it seems any brand that has a performance line can have good products

This is more simple then it looks.

Crucial is just the retail brand for Micron. When you buy crucial you always get micron. Mushkin is more of an overclockers memory, they focus more on delivering a higher quality chip (Usually Wintec or Hynix) and performance is usually very sound. Kingston produces some of their own chips which are primarily used in the higher end components, HyperX and such. However, they primarily buy chips and usually from the same Wintec/Hynix/Samsung that Mushkin/Ramtron and OCZ do.
