I'm not sure if this thread has been done before because I couldn't find it in the search.

But I'd like to know what music you guys listen to when running.

I run maybe 6.5-9 miles a day in under an hour each session (outside takes at least an hour and treadmill maybe 45 minutes)

Sometimes I run to the grocery store 3 miles away (map quested it for accuracy!) and back in the morning and then treadmill at night.

For the past month i have a playlist of songs in very precise order that i MUST listen to in order to get motivated. i cannot go 5 minutes without music, ill die. it's that bad.

But I find myself becoming rather bored with the music i have and listening to the same songs over and over again sucks major balls. its seriously fucking up my routine.

Also, the songs i listen to while running are much much different then songs i listen to at home.

for running i need fast-paced techno drivel and/or poppy shit. NERD remix, basshunter, FOB, all american rejects, paul oakenfield, daft punk even crap from space cowboy and feeder.

But im tired of it. ive gotten so desperate that ive turned to the top 10 on Itunes. im ashamed to say it but ive listen to reply by iaz 30 times in the last 3 days.

Yes, shit shit shit.

You guys have any suggestions for motivating music that wont steal my manhood?

I listen to just about anything, ebooks, radio, music, anything that will occupy my mind to make time go faster. It also depends on the type of run.

I used to in college (hard rock, heavy metal) but now i don't listen to any music. I go when the gym is relatively empty so it's pretty quiet. Unlike most gyms, mine doesn't play music through the speakers. I like that.

I have an ipod nano filled with techno, electronic, trance, & dance music. I like the fast pace to exercise to.

80's to early 90's electronic sounding stuff. Its the stereotypical soundtrack they play in aerobics classes on tv shows. lol.

I prefer heavy metal to work out to (and to chill to, as well). Stuff like Slayer, Children of Bodom, Iced Earth, Lamb of God, anything with a lot of double bass works pretty well for getting you pumped. I usually listen to Metallica's Master of Puppets or Battery, Apocalyptica's Hall of the Mountain King, and Iron Maiden's Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner to get pumped before a race too.

I don't tend to listen to music a lot when I run. Partly because I just like the quiet outdoors I think, and partly because I live in a big city and it's safer to be able to hear what's going on around you.

When I do listen to music, I mostly don't listen to high energy stuff. I prefer stuff that takes my mind off running so I can just keep going steadily. Random examples that I can remember are Schubert's symphonies and Louis Vierne's 24 Pieces en Style Libre. If I do want high energy, Stevie Ray Vaughn works pretty well.

Lately I've been listening to a german language podcast, which is great for language practice

90's rock and rap. Rock to pump you up and the rap to motivate you for the summer time bar hopping hoes .

I am repeatedly running to Dream Theaters "Black Clouds and Silver Linings"

There are some slow spots but most of the cd kicks ass for running, it is fast paced, heavy and just right for my style of running....Fatboy chasin' a donut. Yup, thats me

Do yourself a favor, get the disc, give it a listen or 20 and thank me later.

Trance. Got into it a few years ago when I heard Paul Oakenfold's Tranceport. Now i regularly get the weekly show (two hours of trance remixes) from Trance Around The World. It's superb to workout to and work to so it's definitely what I listen to the most these days.
